This makes me sad and angry, seriously... concrete all around it and bars? I don't see any kind of natural setting..

Actually that's just the area that leads directly into their shelter. Their whole space is about 10 times bigger, and has grass, a pond and trees, stuff like that. It's actually a very nice environment that this is only one small portion of. Plus, the elephants are happy - they wouldn't be breeding so darn much if they weren't - this one's one of like 4 young in there (of varying ages up to about 10).

that's very good to hear, I like the ideas of zoos, but only when they are designed to keep the animals safe and happy
