This is really interesting. If I am correct, you took this with a digital camera? I've noticed that "extended exposures" on digitals tend to create banding or dotting with quick movement, as opposed to a film camera which will capture a solid stroke.

I usually deal with it by using a longer exposure and just moving slower. Also, on less sophisticated cameras it sometimes helps to auto focus on pure darkness so that the shutter speed on the raw pictures is lower.

Well, actually it's taken by my cellphone camera, that's why the quality is so poor.
