Description
Back in 2009, I was working in a company that made me sick.
With hindsight, I was very unexperienced, I took too many things personally, I was unable to manage stress and toxic environments. Basically I was an absolute mess and got very ill as a consequence of that.
With hindsight, the colleagues I had were neither better nor worse than the average horribly stressed colleagues in toxic work environments, but since it was almost my first job I didn't know better.
I remember making a birthday card for the project manager, and giving it to her.
She didn't even thank me and threw it on someone else's table.
I can see now that it is very silly to make a birthday card for someone you don't like and who doesn't like you, but still.
I was so hurt and told my sister.
She told me to bring the card to her.
So the following day I went to the office early, picked up the card and eventually gave it to my sister.
The card is still framed somewhere in Italy and I thought this was a nice ending.
However for her birthday my niece informed me that she wanted a replica of that card.
I asked her why she can't just keep the original, but she made me notice that the girl in the card has blue eyes, while hers are green.
So there you go, I traced a photo of the original and made an almost exact copy of it, but with a different eye colour.
Somehow I feel like this whole story now has a nicer closure.
Watercolour, black fineliners and white gouache on watercolour paper.
