Description In the Early Jurassic of England, a Cloaked Branch-runner (Dimorphodon macronyx) takes an early morning stroll up a tree, using its large grappling claws to haul itself up through the branches towards the canopy where its breakfast awaits.

------------

I've been doing a lot of pterosaur sketches recently, likely influenced by Witton's book "Pterosaurs: Natural history, Evolution, Anatomy", and one of these sketches was of a Dimorphodon macronyx climbing a tree using branches for support. I was rather fond of this sketch, so I decided to make a full drawing out of it, and this is it.

I intended to obscure the anatomy of the Dimorphodon a little, so that's why you don't see the outlines of the arms and legs through the wing membrane, except of course for where it's raising its leg. I also tried using pcynofibres to obscure parts as well, such as the line of the mouth and where the brachiopatagium connects to the body, which although fairly visible, isn't as clear as I think it could be. There wasn't any basis for the markings I gave it, I just sort of went for something that looked mottled and dappled, forest camouflage, that sort of thing.

Not much else for me to say about this, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out (better than I expected), and for once the scanning process didn't totally butcher it up! Hoorah!

Edit: Okay, maybe the scanner did mess it up a bit. Probably best to look at it when it's zoomed out.

Done in pencil, 2013. Cleaned up in GIMP.
