RESULTS - Eleanor's Birthday Bash

It had been too long since Tristan  had enjoyed the opportunity of riding Abe . The fetching grey stallion was a master dressage horse, personally trained by himself and a close friend, Pete . They had both done an excellent job training this animal, until Tristan had found it suitable to pass him over to Jarin . A gift, to both congratulate him on how far he had come in riding, and, indeed, to continue to allow him to prosper. A schoolmaster like Abe was ideal for the job.
     Or...at least he had been.
It was blatant to Tristan, as it had been before: Abe was not as fit as he used to be. Some of his responses were sluggish, and in the warm-up arena, Tristan found himself working hard with the horse to get him to get over his rotund belly and perform the maneuvers cleanly, and Tristan found himself wondering exactly how long had Abe been out of use for.
This horse would be going on a diet as soon as possible…
Still, it was strange to be riding Abe again, Tristan hadn’t expected to have to ride Abe again. He hadn’t expected to be riding for RidgeRunner anytime soon. Not after investing in XFS…
Yet, here he was, far from the Netherlands, riding in Scotland for an American stable… he’d come so far… he sighed softly as he halted Abe for a moment, letting the fat stallion catch his breath while he contemplated.

“Well, maybe this just isn’t working, and maybe it never will!”
Silence fell across the kitchen, as they stared at each other… Tristan had intended for those words to escape his mouth, and yet, even as he spoke them, he realized, that they rang of truth… at least for him. The bristling tension of the room dissolved into shock, a long silence overtaking the pair of them, Tristan’s words seeming to ring on.
He was the first one to break the silence, not giving his fiance an opportunity to talk. He realized that this was the time for a decision, and so he gave a sigh. “Look…” Tristan took a brief pause, if just to compose himself. He couldn’t say this without conviction. He needed to believe it. “I’m done… we’re done.”
He removed the ring from his finger, and placed it on the table, very forcefully holding himself together as he exited the door without further ado. He refused to look at the one he thought he loved, refused to let himself back out for even a moment as he immediately headed down to the stables… he needed to pack up the horses and his tack… and he wanted to get it done quickly.
When he reached the stallion stables, he did have to take a brief moment as he suddenly became very aware of what he had done, he could feel his heart splintering and he nearly heaved out a sob.
But he wouldn’t. He wouldn’t… couldn’t do it yet.
     No.
Tristan wanted to be out and away from XFS as soon as possible. He drove as far as he could with his belongings, everything he felt he needed to take that couldn’t be replaced. He tensed up, gripping the steering wheel. He could feel that wave of emotion crashing up against his wall defense… but he didn’t know when it was going to hit him…
It turned out, far sooner than he expected…
He gave a brief glance to the side, before he suddenly caught sight of a photo sticking out of the glove box of the truck… he reached across, curious, and pulled the small sheet of paper back. His chest heaved, and tears began to stream from his eyes. He pulled the truck over to the side, and just collapsed over the wheel, stuffing the photo back into the glove box.
What had he done?!
He let out a loud, ugly sob. How had he fucked up this badly… why was he driving away?
He knew exactly why he was driving away, he understood it… but to rip himself from his fiance…
That photo, it reminded him of the good, although they had recently had a whole lot of bad. The photo, itself, was a photo from not long after they had proposed… taken by Tristan’s mum, it showed Tristan on Val  and his fiance on his favorite horse. Both were grinning and delighted - still in the honeymoon phase of their relationship, before the problems had set in.
But how things had changed… rarely a day had gone by where they didn’t argue with each other, and they were both so consistently busy that when they weren’t arguing, they rarely ever saw each other… the past few months had been horrendous for both of them. And that was how Tristan convinced himself, walled off his heart again, he recomposed himself… he needed somewhere to go.
He was driving blindly, and he had no idea where he was going…
     Wait.
The stables that Jarin stayed at… they hired him out for workshops here and there… perhaps he and his horses would be welcomed there…
     It wouldn’t hurt to ask…
He couldn’t go back now anyway…
“Hey, this is Tristan Ennerstone… I’ve worked at your stables a few times.” His voice sounded strained, breaking a little, “I’ve decided to move out to a new stable, in the hope of going in a different direction… and if you are interested, I would like to move my horses to Ridgerunner. I am, of course, happy to sponsor the stables with new buildings and facilities…” He spoke clearly, even if his mind and heart were at war with each other, he couldn’t make that clear.
Jennie, RidgeRunner’s owner and prime businesswoman, responded warmly, her smile could be heard over the phone, “Well, Mr. Ennerstone. I do believe we just so happen to have an opening here at our main facility. I’d be more than happy to have you join the team. Of course, we’ll discuss the business terms in good time.” She chuckled, “I think I know one of our riders is going to be overjoyed to have you back in town. Should I let Jarin know you’ll be dropping by?”
Tristan paused for a moment, frowning a little as he considered. It wouldn’t necessarily be a bad idea for Jarin to know… but then again, he’d be so excited to see Tristan, and he wanted a little space just to get settled a tad… “ah, no you don’t need to, I’m sure I’ll catch him when I arrive. No need for you to be going and finding him.” Tristan said gently, “it will take some time for me to travel across and get all the horses across, anyhow. So no use getting him all excited, but thank you.”
“Quite the surprise, then,” Jennie chuckled. “See you soon, Tristan!” At least one of them was happy. It was about time she got the English division back on track! Oh, how long had it been since they stretched into dressage? She was sure she was getting at least one of her riders back into it. One man’s devastation was another woman’s business prosperity.

And as excited as Jarin had been about Tristan coming to work at his stable, he didn’t know at what cost it came. And he was the first to catch the backlash when those strangled emotions finally ripped free from Tristan.
“You’re working here!? Does that mean your fiance too-”
“My ex-fiance, for all I know, is back at XFS doing whatever the fuck he wants, and that is none of your goddamn business and you know what, I’m pretty damn sure, from looking at Abe, that you don’t ride him regularly enough at all. In fact, you’ve gone and taken a gorgeous horse and effectively ruined him. But sure. No need to show any concern for that. Don’t you fucking worry yourself about that Jarin. Just waste my time, ignoring your horse, ignoring my communications. How about you go and fucking ride Western with Sydney  for all I give a shit.” He growled angrily, his eyes flashing furiously.
God knows why exactly he was so angry, there was some part of him that was telling him that he shouldn’t, and that Jarin just cared… but no.
“W-well I-” did ride Western with Sydney...
“Just. Don’t bother, Jarin.” He snapped at him, but this time, there was a great deal of disappointment weighing on his words.
Perhaps...he had been too hard on Jarin. Perhaps, it had been the timing of it all. How Jarin could be so damn happy all the time while Tristan had just lost what he thought was all of his happiness. How could he be such a beacon of joy?
Unsurprisingly, Jarin had taken it pretty hard. But at least it got the kid to stop being a worthless waste of time. And a good excuse for him to stay back at the stables and get back into the English side of riding while Tristan worked on Abe. He needed space. He’d only snap at him again if he had to hear one more, “Wow, Tristan! That was so cool!”
He scowled, moving Abe along to start his routine for the show. He gave a brief glance over the landscape, the sloping moorland of Scotland, hills rolling pleasantly in the distance one way, and to the other, the ocean rolling elegantly, peacefully. North and South Uist off on the horizon. Scotland, a place he once felt so at home yet now he felt so unsettled. His entire world upturned, with nowhere to turn, he felt trapped. A caged animal at a circus.

I gave you a break on the other piece...

|| Next ---> Monsters

PHEW.
SO.
This is a monumental piece for me :''D There's a lot going on here! And it's exciting and terrifying!
For one, this is my first ever fully-colored traditional piece ever!!!! Like, I've been doing the pencil sketch tradigis as practice for a while now but this was super nerve-wracking to start! :''D Like...how do color? How do make bad color look not bad?? All the things I havent had to deal with as digi life just goes, "Mate, this is the color you wanted, let's just change it." Bam. Done. But TRADITIONAL....
I had like...one green that wasn't Acid Slime Green to use for this whole thing xD "Jade Green" my hero. And these aren't the nice colored pencils lol No, these are those ones you get from the giant cheap pack "with all the colors you need" and you only have about ten colors that aren't neon acid trips. x''D
I LEARNED.
I also learned that uh if you make traditional art...you need a way to show your traditional art. Meaning...a scanner or a camera that doesn't obliterate all of the work you put into it :''D I went through two scanners and three cameras before my last scanner finally coughed up something I could actually work with! It's 16 years old and needs a CD to install its program. BUT BLESS ITS DUSTY OLD HEART IT GAVE ME SUCH A WONDERFUL SCAN TO WORK WITH!! <3

So, now that I finally got something to how you, I can finally reveal the VERY START of a very beautiful story! One that's been in the works for two years now with Saoradh   x'''D omg Dras finally gets to her stories :''D OMG NO MORE FILLERS <3 It's been a long time coming and I'm super excited to get things rolling! <3

You have truly outdone yourself dras! <3 What a fabulous entry, you really captured the essence of the landscape and I love how the dark trees in the mid ground offset the horse to make him stand out. The detail is fantastic though and I can only try to encourage you to pick up the coloured pencils more often!

EEELL <3 Thank you so much :''D I feel like I've been through war and back xD This was so tough!! I dunno how you guys do it :''D I was so stressed I'd forget what colors I used in certain spots so I had a spare sheet of paper just listing the "recipe" to get the right color for each spot xD
I'm beyond relieved I was able to get the landscape to come across and not butcher your beautiful lands!! :''D I was so happy there was some backdrop I could work with or my boy might have just become one with the clouds xDD (although I quickly regretted that decision WITH ALL THE LEAVES. HNNNG. this is why digi artists invented tree and foliage brushes...)
I look forward to the next time you get me to drag out a sheet of paper and panic pencils. Who knows, maybe I'll have some other medium by then xD

This is absolutely breathtaking! I am amazed at how good the colors look here!
What brand/type of pencils are you using?
I use prismacolor premier colored pencils. We got the 150 kit when we had money to spare.
Now I am so cheap, I can't imagine spending more than $30 on a pack of quality art supplies unless
it's some irresistible deal lol.

Drasayer In reply to Ashley-Inspirations [2019-07-26 20:46:38 +0000 UTC]

I wish I could say I used some really nice brand or some fancy paper but i just used what i had laying around from years ago xD they're Sargent brand which you can get a 50 pack for $5 on Amazon...that tells you their quality right there x") and how cheap I am. So like even $30 would make me light headed xD there are a few stray Crayola pencils mixed in there too lmao again...shows exactly the quality I had to work with.
Out of all of the pencils I had, really only a handful were even suitable colors to use :"D it was super challenging because to get one shade of color, I had to blend about three colors to come close to what I wanted xD 10/10 a horrible choice of pencils to try to do something way out of my skill set lololol
I envy your collection xD sounds amazing, from what I've been told!

YAAAAASSSSS <3 What a reunion of these bois <3 omg it's been so long! But like long enough to make it so satisfying to see them together again! Warms my little heart <3
Er, well, breaks it a little because sad things for Tristan but...BUT HE IS HOME NOW.
-sniff- Thank you so much :''D I stressed so much about starting this project. Being a predominately digital artist and years of it, this was just so brain melting to go "okay. now...make the color." And not have multiple layers pile up to make the color I wanted! I just HAD TO KNOW WHAT COLOR TO USE!???! It was absolutely terrifying :''D
I'm just relieved I found something to use. I had never had the feeling of "I have this art I want to show people but I don't have a way to show them..." before. It was really heart breaking until that blessed old scanner saved the day! It lives in my room now xD

You know you were one of the driving forces that pushed me to try this! I just go and visit your art, drooling over how smooth and well-blended everything is <3 A skill I painfully lack xD But I admire how much effort and work you have to put into these things! I think I can understand the struggles and the merriment a little better now. So, thank you, for being an inspiration to try something so scary to someone like me! If it hadn't been for the "TRADI TRADI TRADI" chant squad, I doubt I ever even would have thought I could!

This was like...welp...that line will have to do to represent a tree branch xD Can't texture and single pixel shade that! xDD I really just tried to break up the foliage into as many shapes as I could to make it look fluffy and stuff :''D The more breaks, the more complex it looks to the eye, right? Yeah I usually try to devide things into sections and shapes as well but I usually get too impatient and it turns into a bloppy mess of colours

Lmfao or try to use the select tool to fix a piece of anatomy or move a hunk. Omilord xD has definitely taught me the "...eh. just ignore it. Too lazy to redraw everything" lololol
Definitely takes a lot of patience! The man trees up close took sooooo long in comparison to everything else. Probably even longer than coloring my pony xD I just tell myself mentally "you're only doing a tree today" and that helps to keep me from rushing it. Kind of seals my fate that I need to spend a few hours on doing just a tree.

OMG same! I nearly always start out making the head to small and digitally I can just make it bigger, but with traditional you can't xD
Yeah I tend to also spand the making of a detailed piece over a couple of days so I don't loose patience
But sometimes when the piece is somewhere between timeconsuming and quick to make, I tend to try to rush it, to make it quick to make.
