Description Today was the day I died, though I shall not tell you why.
For now I shall speak of the heavenly stairs,
And the trip you too shall have to fair.

The stairs we must ascend are marble,
Incased in black and white tiles with no taste.
Golden leaf trim surrounds it from the top to bottom step,
And within carpet does interlace.

At first I thought it amusing, despite the burden I bare,
And took the first step with no caution, not knowing what was there.

Ten pounds where added to my arms, my legs nearly went out;
But the second step I was prepared, and with the third there was no doubt.

The fourth and fifth where tall, so I stepped my way with care,
With every step ten pounds where add, not much more I felt I could bare.

Up and up I climbed, soon on hands and knees.
And just as I felt that I had lost my grip, the middle step I did on trip.

Ten pounds then did lift from my back, and twenty more on the step after that.
More and more weight I did lose, even what I had not knew.

At last I had reach the final step,
with only one weight left; the one I felt within my chest.
The longer I stood, the heavier it weighed,
until it was more then all the rest.

Realization dawned to late,
And I knew I could not move my legs to reach the final step,
And so instead I took a leap, forward or backward I might fly.
And now you know the rest.
