Welcome to my head: the Ravenclaw Common Room, as I pictured it.

I’ve been wanting to do this for a long while now. This is only just one half of the room, as it’s supposed to be a round room (hence the weird perspective) and I’m still just experimenting with digital techniques, so bear with my amateurism. The line art was done with fine pen, the colouring is completely digital. I am now working on the other half of it, where the statue and the stairways to the upstairs dorms are.

I took it my priority to keep everything canon, adding my own ideas to the design, of course. I wanted it because whereas there are numerous beautiful art pieces of the Raven tower out there, almost all tend to change canon information (like use silver instead of copper, for example). But nothing you see in this picture will contradict what has been written in the Harry Potter books or on Pottermore by J.K. Rowling herself.

I attempted to keep everything blue-and-bronze and something that’s a mixture of a very Enlightened décor with the Renaissance parts and that of the turn-of-the-century cafés for the mood. I kept changing my mind about a lot of things everytime I sketched it anew, but elements like the cushioned bay-window alcoves, the récamier, the spiral copper entrance staircase and the ivory piano were always must-haves, even if they weren’t stated to be there in canon. But I definitely couldn’t imagine it any other way, knowing what values the House of Ravenclaw embraces. I thought if there’s one house that represents the Renaissance mentality, that’s Ravenclaw!

On that note: we’ve seen Gryffindor is a medieval tower, and Slytherin’s more Gothic. Hufflepuff is supposed to be a redecorated, vast wine cellar. I might post my earlier designs for that common room and dorms soon, but since then there has been more information about that, so I know what I drew is not in fact all canon. Oh, well.
