Description So, I went to RealmsCon 2014 dressed as Specter Knight from the video game Shovel Knight...And this is a picture of me haunting a hotel room.  Spooooooky.

Just about everything was made by me- the hooded cloak came from a pattern bought at a store.  It was my first time using a sewing machine, so some stuff came out a little wonky, and I reverted back to hand-sewing the hems.  The skulls on the shoulders are hand-sewn plushes, and the mask and leg armor are made from craft foam.

It was my first time making armor pieces- I used some knee-high boots as a sort of leg form to shape the pieces, and those boots are worn under the armor, which attaches with a combination of velcro and elastic straps.

The scythe is collapsible- my dad found these poles that can be formed into a collapsible, giant stick for about $11.  I covered the sticks in brown craft foam to make it a bit thicker, and my dad assisted in making a sturdy scythe blade for the top.  It's a rather simplified version of the scythe that Specter Knight actually carries, but I didn't want to make it any bigger/more complex because I was afraid of bonking random strangers with it.

Underneath the cloak, I'm wearing some generic-brand long gloves with some extra fabric attached to make them cover more of my arms, some generic black jeans, and a black t-shirt that nobody saw at all.  I probably should've worn some black makeup around my eyes to conceal my face a bit better, but I was afraid of making a mess in the hotel room...

Overall, I'm kind of pleased with this cosplay- it got some pretty positive reactions from people...One person said I was "badass", which I've never been called at all in my entire life, so that was cool.  And another person called me "sir", which is another thing I've never been called before, so that was a new experience for me as well.

The scythe blade's made from white foam board- 2 pieces sandwiched together over the top of the pole, held together with very strong glue.  There's a few other foam board pieces glued over gaps near the spots where it attaches to the pole.  Those were sanded down to fit more flush with the rest of the blade.

do you have a pattern for the skulls that others could use?

I kinda just made the skulls up on the spot, so there were no patterns made for them...They were basically made by making half of a sphere, and putting a flat bottom on the open half of the ball, then adding the three teeth to the bottom of the flat side.
I'm sorry, I dunno if this explanation is making any sense, but here's a tutorial on making basic plush spheres that somebody else did:  quexthemyuu.deviantart.com/art…

It'd be kind of like taking this six-piece ball from that tutorial, and only sewing two or three of the segments together, then covering the large opening in it it with a large half-circle/oval shape.  And then adding teeth.  And gluing on eye holes and a nose hole afterwards.

I don't know how big the spheres are with this tutorial, but the skulls I made are about the size of baseballs...so it may take a bit of experimenting to find the right sizing to use for the segments...

How did you make your cloak? I'm working on a Specter Knight cosplay and I can't figure out how I would go about sewing it like that.

I bought the pattern for the cloak at a fabric store- it's just called Simplicity 1582 A. It's also sold online at Simplicity's website:  www.simplicity.com/p-9610-miss…
I just followed the directions to make cloak B, then trimmed the front part of the robe short and raggedy, and kept the back longer, but still a bit raggedy as well, and added a longer tail to the back of the hood.

This is pretty much one of the best things I've ever seen, this is so epic! If only you could float!

Ahhh!  Thank you so much!
Yeah, it'd be pretty cool to somehow pull off the illusion of floating constantly. Maybe I should stick some wheels to the bottoms of my shoes, then I'd probably look like I'm floating...and then I could roll around and use my scythe to keep myself from falling down!

Haha, that's something I really like with you cosplayers, you always have such interesting and clever solutions to get the sought for reaction from your crowds
