Description acrylic on canvas, approx. 80 x 64.5cm (framed) / 71 x 56cm (artwork)

This painting is a somewhat whimsical commentary on the pomp of organized religion (not to be confused with spirituality), the futile quest it encourages (for vitality already found within), and the candy-coating of its savagery that would otherwise expose its hypocrisy.

A scene repeated symmetrically (loose structural mimicry of a playing card) depicts clergymen conferring. Of course, there is a hierarchy, and enthroned, looking papal, with sacred items held aloft, the highest priest casts his spell. The niches behind his head house symbols from the dollar, including the Illuminati pyramid, and above is the crown-jewel of his opulent throne. This church is one of many built right on top of the ruined remains of sacred places by conquerors with different gods.

Naturally, the leader of a culture so bellicose, of such “Prince of Peace” prevarication, must surely be a man. In fact, the grace of feminine spirit would be such a threat to the continuity of the Lie, that candidates must be physically screened. And since looking directly at the testicles of the Supposed Messiah’s Direct Heir might reveal that He is, in fact, simply a man (blasphemy), He must be screened indirectly, through a mirror on a stick, reflecting up His robes through a hole in His special chair.

His priest-servant is charged with a mission to set the spirit free, but a dagger, drawn under the table, and a clerical collar torn open reveal that perhaps something less-than-noble is occurring. The illusionist spell is cast; the Body becomes the source of creation, and from its fruits, the Blood is drawn. (as evidenced by the now-coloured dagger in the reverse image below) The chalice is filled and then it is drained.

All the while, the true source remains at the centre, hidden and dormant, but still very much alive.
