Description Oil on Linen 112" x 73"

A recently completed work for a private collection. An exciting celebration of both the Hudson River School landscape painters and the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. I have an extensive write up and dialog on the work online at:

muddycolors.blogspot.com/2013/…

Enjoy!

Traditional Art oil painting is one of my favorite breathtaking and life emanating view when it comes to classics such as this. It feels beautiful for me when it comes to being nostalgic again seeing the amazing impressionistic view such as this as one of Tolkien's tales. It really is inspirational... Good job.

This is just... beautiful. I love seeing some traditional art when there's so often digital illustrations everywhere. Any fanart for Middle Earth history is something I love seeing. I don't see too many pieces for Gondolin, and I always enjoyed that tale and the city. Beautiful oil painting that brings the city and the vale to life!

I always had a real difficulty visualizing Gondolin. Your fortress and lush landscape is quite a good interpretation. If anything, you made Gondolin look too accessible.

What a masterpiece! (I would only point out that the eagles' proportions and shape could be better: if I may say so, on your next go at these birds Β the best would be to look for references of golden eagles which were the inspiration for the lord of rings/hobbit movies).

Of all the work you have listed on DA this is my favorite.Β  I could go on and on about all the things I love about this piece, but what it really boils down to is this: the painting is nearly perfect.Β  I especially like the eagles and the motion you've caught in their wings.

Impressive illustration! I was held in awe for a while when I first looked at this beautiful and realistic piece.
And I am glad to see that you have read the words aright. From what I can now recall, J.R.R. Tolkien uses the word bear. It seems that the Eagles did just that-bore them (not only Hurin and Huor but other characters too in various mentions) with their talons.
So well done for that as well.

Your works - along with John Howe's - are clearly the best illustrations complementing Tolkien's work.
