Description When selling art of late I get 2 questions; "which is YOUR favorite?" and "do you have any vampires?" I hadn't done any vampire art in a long time, and the current craze makes a question like that one inevitable. I may color this and I may do another in the same vein (sorry), but in any case this was the idea that worked best for now. I love playing with inanimate things coming to life or, in this case, coming BACK to evil existance. Perhaps she shouldn't have wandered into the graveyard... I also played more with the Brush pen and more blacks to get across ideas and varying textures and shades. All in all Im pretty happy with it. Can't have taken me more than 10-15 hours.

9x12 Cropped strathmore 400, micron pens

Doc, you are still going great guns. I stoipped over to leave a note that I checked back at my folders. The dA rel;ated images include a by-line, so there should be no problem in mentioning my sources; but 90% of my images come from other sites, as I said earlier.

Great picture. Love the setting but would of thought witches before vampires if you hadn't said anything. It's good either way.

This is gorgeous I love how the character is imprisoned (either as a victim or the transformation to the monster behind her). Excellent detail and shading

the re-animation is so quietly ominous - very appropriate for traditional gothic horror! a good distinction from the current fad

dashinvaine [2009-12-03 15:56:48 +0000 UTC]

I agree with Jeff, this is one of your best yet. Nailed the femininity of the girl. I think the ghoul could use more definition, though. It lacks presence at the moment.

DocRedfield In reply to dashinvaine [2009-12-03 16:25:46 +0000 UTC]

I agree about the ghoul.... just didn't want to over-do it and convinced myself that it would 'work better with color'. Then again, in b/w he's almost etheral being so light. Conundrum! I wonder what else I might have done with him (before going to color)...

faile35 [2009-12-03 14:13:22 +0000 UTC]

Simply put, Scott, I think this is one of my favorite things you've ever done. I particularly like how you used the alternating and shifting darks and lights to bring her figure out against the background, and the mischievous vines against her figure. And those evil hands are perfect. The weeping-blood suggestion there is really cool, too.

Awesome piece!

DocRedfield In reply to faile35 [2009-12-03 16:30:48 +0000 UTC]

Hey Jeff - Thank you for the kind words. Yeah, I'm finally getting bolder with black, eh? Here it allowed me to simplify and then not get too extravagent with the shading while still getting the same point across. Should I color it too...?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

faile35 In reply to DocRedfield [2009-12-03 22:05:03 +0000 UTC]

I'd like to see it colored.

erosarts [2009-12-03 13:27:30 +0000 UTC]

Very, cool. Despite the vampire theme (which I just don't get the fascination with).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DocRedfield In reply to erosarts [2009-12-03 16:27:55 +0000 UTC]

hahahaha! Yeah, well, at the risk of sounding simply anti-conformist, vampires were cooler before Thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

erosarts In reply to DocRedfield [2009-12-03 17:22:14 +0000 UTC]

You said it!

Oh for the days when vampires were simply evil, undead, blood-sucking monsters who were not suitable for being romantically involved with!
