Description Glaurung

First of the Uruloki was Glaurung the Deciever, the Father of Dragons.

Even in the first onset of his youth his power was terrible. But having burst forth before the time appointed by Melkor he was not yet come to his full might. His great scales were as yet vulnerable to the sting of elven blade and arrow...

It was in later centuries that he and his brood would emerge from Angband, to burn and ravage in the Battle of Sudden Flame and the Battle of Unnumbered Tears. So a great army of Elves and Men fell before the onslaught, for none could withstand the dragonfire save the Dwarves of Belegost...

A photoshop linework doodle that morphed into the first dragon ive attempted in over a decade.
Its rather sketchy in places but i kinda like the thing
Might return to this at some point and give it a more finished look. But it will do for now.

All I could think of when I saw this was, "Whoa, intense." It make me think about how one can mold things to our individual imagination.

started out with minimal expectations of this one but certain techniques i tried clicked and he just sort of appeared .
Of course the graphics tablet is now a bubbling puddle of molten plastic but after several floods of festering ichor and gore on previous occasions, it was getting off lightly to be honest...

Haha. That's funny. I'm sure it would appreciate a reprieve. The tablet that is. You planning on melting it again any time soon?

WHOA!!!!! O_O Seriously??!! This - THIS, is your rendition of a dragon? Wow... You soundly transcend my prowess of dragons, because this one is incredible!! I've never seen a draconic being quite like it, but I love the design you've used, here; obviously intrinsic to its nature in appearance, while retaining bits and pieces of your own style, and the head structure is just grand - it has a spiky, skeletal appeal, with a most uniquely fashioned shape in the jaws, including the lip-less teeth arming the exterior, rather than the opposite... I'd be intimidated at the thought of getting bitten by those ferocious daggers. .___. The solemn, narrowed figure of the eyes compliments the radiant orange emitting from the cores, too, and the choice of colour in the image is exceptional. Whether you get around to completing the picture or not, it looks great either way. Spectacular work!

im really glad you like this, especially knowing your fondness for dragons.
once i had a rough sketch for the design it was a case of; one big light (his gob), everything else in shadows, and some highlights to pick out some facial detail.
I chickened out and only did a headshot which is why it didnt take long.
Maybe i'll tackle a whole one another time. Ive some ideas for a few more dragons now.
