I would have loved an ending like this. The ending Azula was given in the comics left a lot to be desired. The idea of giving Azula a character arc had so much potential but the final product just fell flat for me. Like Sorakochan said, I wanted to see a different side to Azula and see her accept how broken she is on the inside, decide for herself to change for the better,Β and eventually, with Ursa and Zuko's help, begin to grow intoΒ a better person

If only this happened. And the bitter relationship between Azula and her mother and Zuko was Ozai's fault because he turned Azula against them since she is a prodigy and made her think Ursa and Zuko were worthless.
And in the Search I think what Ursa meant by not loving them enough was that she choose to marry Ozai even though there was a prophecy and she had a choice whether or not to do it and made that monster their father and for not defying Ozai and taking them with her, it could of saved them a lot of pain but Ozai left Ursa no choice because he would of killed them all and she had to change her face and become Noriko so he wouldn't find her and do something to her if either Zuko or Azula did something to jeopardize the firenation.
Everything was beyond their control.

I hated the Search. It is the worst thing in the entire franchise. Having Ursa change her identity and lossing her memories so she wouldn't remember her children (no she was not hiding from Ozia because he knew where to look for her) makes her look kind of like a bad parent who instead of dealing with the loss of her children just forgets about them. And the ending was terrible with Azula running of to get a new face and identity from the spirit was just insulting to all her fans. What makes it worse is that the better ending was right there. First they should have brought Ty Lee along since she could stop Azula from fire bending and add more tension. Second take out the face spirit she was just stupid. Third end it with Azula and Ty Lee staying behind with Ursa or have Ursa and Ty Lee take Azula back to the asylum, which leaves it open to bring Azula back and make us Tyzula shippers happy.

Yeah, the comic was depressing and confusing, it said Ozai and Ursa wwere to marry because of a prophecy and yet years later Azulon despises his younger son's family and then commanded Ozai to kill Zuko when he is part of that prophecy and he doesn't think much of Azula either. To me this is proof that Ozai lied about the prophecy and ruined Ursa and the kids lives for nothing.

Then why did Ozai marry Ursa in the first place? Also where does it say Azulon hated Ozai's family, sure he hated his son due to him being an idiot and trying to over throw Iroh, after all if Iroh had been Fire Lord the war would have ended long before Ange woke up, but he didn't seem to hate the rest of the family. Heck I bet he expected Azula to succed Iroh.

Ozai married Ursa because he knew she was the granddaughter of Avatar Roku, and since Iroh and Lu Ten were going to be the next firelords and Ozai wanted power he wanted to have heirs of his own to beat Iroh and Lu Ten to the punch, and what better way to do it than to marry a woman with a powerful linage. In the comic Ozai confessed to Ursa he has spies on her months before they were married, before they ever met so him meeting Ursa in Hira was not the first time so him marrying Ursa was all planned.
Azulon in the comic at first was kind to Ursa and was happy Ozai married her, but he saw Zuko as pathetic and wasn't impressed with Azula when he though the prophecy would bring forth powerful benders, so he must have found out Ozai lied to him. In the comic Ozai panicked to Ursa that there was treason becasue of her fake letter, while she thought it was because of her saying Zuko was not Ozai's son, Ozai looked completely worried and he must have known his father was on to him that the prophecy didn't exist.
And if that's the case, Azulon would be pissed because Avatar Roku is considered an enemy to the Firenation royal family and because of Ozai lying to his father, the Firelord, to marry Ursa, he not only committed treason by lying to the king, Ozai tainted the royal blood by bringing Roku's blood into the family when he is seen as the enemy.

Where in the comic does it say Ozai lied to his father about the prophecy?

It doesn't, but I assume he lied because he looked freaked out in the comic in the flashbacks, and when he told Ursa he had spies on her before they ever met.

aceking90 In reply to WhitePedal25 [2015-07-02 13:32:36 +0000 UTC]
That doesn't prove or even implied he lied to his farther. They were probably told the prophersy long before the two were married and Ozia sent the spies so he would know enough about her to control her. And the reason he freaked out was simply due to his overly controling nature.

If Azulon and Ozai knew of the prophecy for a long time? Why didn't they introduce temselves to Ursa when she was a little girl?

I shall answer that with my own question, why did Ozia think a half a dozen slow moving blimps would be abe to destroy a country the size of Russia in a day? He just sucks at making decisions and is an idiot.

Yepand sadly Ursa was forced to marry him and Zuko and Azula were forced to have him as a father. I'm amazed by this because Azula isn't stupid like her father.

I didn't really like that part myself. I think the biggest problem I had with the comics in general was how they had Azula go mentally insane. I always imagined her being emotionally unstable after the series finale because her breakdown was all the neglect she had from Ursa, the high expectations to be perfect, and the deep loss of her only friends...

So agreed, I think they had no idea what to do with her after the 'Ursa is Noriko' thing, so they just... made her disappear in the quickest way possible. I feel when they made her run, they just wanted to end Azula's character arch in a believable way and just forget about her! Guess they didn't think of all the Azula fans, Huh?!

What they are thinking-
Azula: Yay! I've waited my entire life for this! I love you mommy!
Ursa: Oh shit this is awkward. Keep smiling Ursa, keeeeeep smiling, maybe she will forget about how lousy you were to her and not kill you if you Just. Keep. Smiling.
