Technically Azrael is the same angel Sandalphon from the original series but here it developed much later and produce a body to fight outside of the magma. Its design is meant to be tribute to the xenomorph’s, one of the world's most recognized movie monsters and a pop-cultural icon. It combines features of the xenomorph queen and the predalien, however it possess no inner jaw and has the classic angel bird skull on top of its head.
