Seeing this made me wonder what a new movie with them would be like. Maybe in a prequel where you get to see many of them roaming around and really show their true colors.

They're really one of my favorite Miyazaki creatures. At least they're expanded upon a little more in the manga.
Shinji Higuch has a live-action short film featuring them, but I haven't watched it.
