Description Because everybody needs to start off somewhere.

So I recently downloaded Blender, and want to make a go at 3D modeling. I want to use this program to create comics in both 3D and Freestyle, but as comics generally require character design, setting design, object design and generally the whole shebang, I need to tackle the basics first before I can do anything regarding the more advanced stuff, especially since I am a complete newbie at anything 3D.

Thankfully, Youtube has plenty of tutorials designed to get newbies like me up to speed.

This was created with the help of this tutorial on Youtube, which has us creating a 3D rendered coffee cup. The tutorial in question was fairly simple to follow, and though it was a little time consuming (about several hours' worth) considering this was my first blend, I think the end result was pretty nice. I did run into one major snag during the final process, where the cup and the plane turned black on my first render, which I had to go into Materials in order to fix. And I still haven't figured out how to make the bottom and the underside of this thing look flat in smooth view.

That being said, this was rendered with 500 samples, and I definitely wouldn't mind doing something like this again!

As first renders in Blender go, this wasn't a bad one. The only gripe I really have with it is that the bottom and the inside have this thing going on where the convergence lines are visible even with smoothing. Otherwise, I'm fairly happy with it.
