I became very interested in Sakizo's beautiful illustration work last year, when several cosplayers wore costumes based off her work to Katsucon 2012. Her work is really gorgeous and I do encourage everyone to check her out! ~sakizo This year I debuted a costume based off one of my favorite Sakizo designs, the carousel pony.

The construction is pretty straight forward, but was at times a bit tedious. The top is a halter style corset with fake roses hand sewn on along with lace appliques next to the center corset panel. The brooches (except for the the one of the collar) were ordered online and painted with enamel paint that was mixed to achieve an ivory color, instead of stark white.

The bustle is 5 layers of gathered circle skirt pieces in varying lengths with horsehair sewn in for extra bounce and volume. For more information on using horsehair, I highly recommend Rufflebutt's tutorial [link] It definitely saved me a lot of frustration and is extremely helpful. Underneath the bustle is a pillow I created that snaps to the waist of my bustle for even more volume. I decided I wanted to snap the pillow on, instead of sewing it because I like the idea of being able to reuse it for future projects. The tail is an Epic cosplay wig ponytail clip that I sewed to a small pillow I created and velcros onto one of the bustle tiers. The fiber in Epic's products really is something I recommend. I'm thoroughly impressed with how it held up throughout the day. Detangles super easily!

The shoes were hand painted with a mixture of pink and white fabric paint to achieve a very light pink that matches the pink fabric pieces in my corset. The straps that go across my feet are spandex material, in order to allow for comfort and also to allow me to get my shoes on easily. Basically, a lot of gluing and painting went into the shoes.

There are some things that I do want to improve on for the next time I wear this costume, including:
-adding more volume to the wig (that bow is huge lol!)
-adding more curl to the tail and figure out a way to keep the tail from weighing down the bustle
-add dots to the thigh highs (I ran out of time :c)
