There are just as many humans who aren't. When I go out even grocery shopping, or walking into the city centre, or even waiting for a bus - I get smoke blown into my face all the time. When I went to Spain for a holiday, I lost my voice after the first day. People sitting around during a meal out of doors all smoked. If I wanted to eat, I had to sit in the smoke too.
The children of smokers, for example, are also exposed to cigarette smoke. Even those parents who go outside to smoke bring back the pollutants on their clothes and in their hair.
Smoke is a poison for everybody, and most humans exposed to it haven't chosen to be.

I have had this problem both in Andalusia and in Barcelona. It isn't indoors that people are smoking - but as you probably know, in Andalusia there aren't many places where you can eat indoors anyway. Whenever we would sit outside to eat, people around us would be smoking. I have this particularly bad memory of a night in Seville, in a street of restaurants, and everybody around was smoking - about 15 tables of them. I had no voice the next morning.
Here in the UK people are also prohibited from smoking in public places. Nonetheless it is common for people to smoke at bus stops, outside the doors of restaurants or shops (because you definitely can't smoke inside), and - the worst, to me - outside of hospital doors. In our hospital (I'm a doctor), there is a big "NO SMOKING" sign, posters prohibiting smoking, and the entry has been painted with red and "no smoking" on the floor... and still people stand there and smoke.
The bottom line is, no matter what the legislation, a lot of human beings are victims of other people's smoking habits.

It's sad but true and the worst thing is that will never change anything in this regard ... anyways, something (very little) has changed, few years ago everybody smoked where you least expect, in or out, no matter, Β now indeed, here in Madrid find a lot of people smoking in front of the hospital, as you say, at bus stops too, nobody and nothing can stop them,let's hope maybe they conscience will "talk"them inside and will be a change someday

Yeah, I think that's the downside to any big city, unfortunately. I love quieter places too but having lived in both... I have to say that currently I'm in the big-city phase. I like being able to get everything I want.
