Description This pic is based on one of the weirdest event that really happened in my game. This dog is a creature summoned from the item which ranger gets after doing all quests for his stronghold. It has some special abilities, like howling which casts protection form fear on your party, but I hadn't noticed that it also causes panic to every evil creature that fail the courage check (I don't know how it is in english), so when I used it before fight with Firkraag, the dragon suddenly starts to flee, and it looked as he was made afraid by a dog.

Yep, you get a little statuette that can summon a dog when you comp, lete all quests for ranger's stronghold. And this dog is pretty neat ^^

XD Yup going to have to do a ranger now... now then... who to bring for this playthrough... Yoshimo/Imoen obviously for story purposes and well going through all the trouble to save her I'll be damned if I don't take Imoen ever playthough XD I've stuck with her from BG1 she's pretty much a staple to my party and Yoshi is basically the perfect built in placeholder for her T_T still wish I could keep him though.

XD Imoen is actually part of the reason I haven't played a ranger since my first attempt at the game. XD she failed a pickpocket and the ai made her attack the sleeping gnome she just turned hostile and once I realized what was going on my ranger had fallen. ^_^; I had no idea it would do that as it was my first experience with anything remotely dnd related and my prior gaming experience was rather limited at the time.

It was also the first game I had ever played where I could get in trouble for stealing everything not nailed down as I also found out the hard way XD

Oh god let's get out of the inn before the guards slaughter me... 0_0 okay safe now... wait... what does fallen mean... that can't be good... 0_0 crap leaving the inn autosaved and now I have to start over because I'm an idiot who didn't save at all XD

My NEXT wizard had a 16 con ^_^;

XD I think the thing I love most about BG2 is the familiar XD summon for free hp and shove it in my pack for the rest of eternity because gosh darnit my mage needs ever hp she can get XD Though BG2 has me running more thieves than I would normally because the only pure thief in the game is Yoshi and unless I take Jan I don't have anyone who can improve their thief levels. Though with the right equipment Imoen can get me through decently with some potions of master thievery. I can't say the same for Nalia, I like her but I never use her as more than a mage who can wear elven chain and use swords and bows ^_^; 'Course Imoen can do the same and is better at the thief stuff.

But I really missed Yoshi hiding in the shadows and backstabbing the crap out of someone with his katana.

XD as for BG1 I made a fighter and managed to survive as I finally had hp and couldn't blow myself up as easily. That and I added Xan to my lineup because clinically depressed elven wizards are awesome. Plus he wasn't going to blow me up since he couldn't cast fireball XD missed magic missile though

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Deorwyn In reply to thunderanima [2011-08-27 07:35:12 +0000 UTC]

Oh, yes, familiars are awesome. Sometimes i play mage in BG2 just to get a little one. Only I usually let them fly around for they are just cute and I like to talk to them ^^'
Hmm, and I for one don't remember ever playing a thief. Imoen was usually suffice. Not to mention that first time I passed nearly whole BG1 not knowing that thieves can neutralise traps and I was doing it by stepping on them. I got to know the thief trick only in BG2 tutorial. Way to be quick, isn't it XD
Well, magic missile is a curious spell. The lowest level but darn, it proves to be useful most of the time and often hits where stronger spells cannot. XD Still, agree on Xan being awesome, but that is no surprise from me. :b

thunderanima In reply to Deorwyn [2011-08-27 08:06:29 +0000 UTC]

Out of Xan, Edwin, Dynaheir and Xzar, why was Edwin the only one allowed to be playable in BG2? I got more use out of Xzar than Edwin and I only picked him up as cannon fodder for that mage assassin outside of the FAI. I used Xan all the time and Dynaheir came with Minsc and started with some good spells if you rescued her at the right level. But nooo Xzar and Dynaheir get murdered and you're pretty much forced to help with Xzar's death... sure he was an evil insane necromancer but I would have died many times over without him and Monteran to be meat shields for Immy and my mage charname.

(Alanna(elven mage), Rose(bard), and Illumina(Paladin, whose portrait is a gausiun blurred Sophitia from soul calibur with a background edited in: [link] ) are my most common Charnames I use when I'm playing a girl, occasionally I'll use Hawke who is either a fighter/thief half elf or just a pure thief depending on my mood XD played through the Aerie romance with him which is strangely the only one I've completed)

XD and wow that went off into a tangent XD

Magic missile is freaking awesome and it has saved me so many times. And sleep can shut down those freaking archer swarms so you can mop up.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Deorwyn In reply to thunderanima [2011-08-28 05:55:19 +0000 UTC]

I dunno. Maybe because he had fans. I've never had him in my party anyway. Neither Xzar, though I started to appreciate him after attempting to translate the mod that adds NPC interactions to BG1 (an endeavour that was never finished and now got lost somewhere), because he had quite hilarious dialogues. Still it's a pity Dyhaheir isn't there. And I personally would pick Khalid instead of Jaheira for BG2 any day.

Well, I played with so many Bhaalspawns, most of whom never went far into the game before I got bored ^^' but my most memorable are Eskhata (my main, elven ranger) and Kaspar (male human paladin that romances with Viconia; probably my favourite of the non-mod romances).

True about magic missile XD And I started to appreciate sleep after having an enchanter in Icewind Dale.

Don't worry, I rarely have an occasion to talk this much here XD

thunderanima In reply to Deorwyn [2011-08-28 06:06:11 +0000 UTC]

When Khalid was not with Jaheira in the beginning I thought ok we rescue him and all will be good... then I found the body and a piece of my childhood died. Khalid and Jaheira were staples of my BG1 party back when I first played the game. And I almost cried when I realized what had happened to him. The real reason I was after Irenicus was to kill him for killing Khalid.

I also missed Garrick, probably one of my favorite characters from BG1 I like bards for some insane reason and he quotes monty python when he fails his morale save. Well at least he didn't get killed but he got a pretty crappy cameo IMO.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Deorwyn In reply to thunderanima [2011-08-28 06:33:18 +0000 UTC]

Well, I knew of Khalid's death because a friend who played it earlier told me in advance. I still thought it's a pity. Damned Irenicus. If it comes to BG villains, I much preferred Sarevok. He had some style (after his first cutscenes I knew I will like him :b), and I loved all that investigation in BG1 before you finally got to know who exactly stands behind everything and why. With Irenicus I felt like you know almost all about your true adversary from the very beginning, and you just have to get him. Plus, he lacked that specific charisma for me. I just couldn't care about all the matter as much as I did in BG1.

Heh, Garrick, I remember i was taking him often at my very first playthroughs Later not so much. Maybe I just don't have that thing for bards, but he was kinda sweet.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thunderanima In reply to Deorwyn [2011-08-28 06:41:40 +0000 UTC]

Sarevok was an awesome villian, and some of the assassins he sent after me caused me to reload several times. I wanted to know why he was after me and why he killed Gorion and why he was doing what he was doing. I just wanted Irenicus to hurry up and die already.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Deorwyn In reply to thunderanima [2011-08-28 06:51:11 +0000 UTC]

Yup, that sums up my feelings pretty well, too.
Of Sarevok's assassins for me the worst (ie. the hardest to beat) was that dwarf in Beregost. He was hardcore: I was never entering that particular tavern before I gathered strong enough party XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thunderanima In reply to Deorwyn [2011-08-28 07:12:07 +0000 UTC]

XD Oh god that dwarf! He was insanely hard for me too, but on TOP of that when Silke failed her morale save she would RUN INTO THAT FREAKING TAVERN so I'd have to go in and kill the dwarf first (chasing Silke was how I found out he existed XD) before starting the Silke fight so that I could survive and get Garrick ^_^; and of course her quarterstaff +1 for Jaheira.

Deorwyn In reply to thunderanima [2011-08-29 07:18:24 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, she didn't to that to me, strangely. Though maybe because I was always trying to kill her as fast as possible before she uses that lightning spell (if I remember correctly; or it was a fireball?) 'cause it was usually killing me with one hit.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thunderanima In reply to Deorwyn [2011-08-31 04:46:28 +0000 UTC]

It was lightning, I hate it when she casts that 'cause she always manages to kill Garrick with it XP And since I usually fight her to recruit him it kinda sucks for her to do that.

XD well he always was one of my favorite characters in BG1. My early parties tended to be Charname, Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Garrick, and Brawen. I usually picked up Xan and Monteran for that mage at the front of the inn though XD That battle has killed me far to many times to count. Then again my first death outside of candlekeep was more often then not caused by gibberlings ^_^; heh well a level 1 mage and a level 1 thief aren't the best by themselves after all XD.

^_^; just finished my current run of BG1 with trilogy btw, still can't get the transfer to happen so Imoen and Jaheira will keep their bg2 starting abilities (annoying as I had totally focused on what thieving skills I wanted Imoen to have for bg2. Thankfully I used the all the stat boost books on my sorceress (as I'm currently running one, XD went fire ball crazy on all the goblins in Irenicus' dungeon cause I want to get the heck out of there. (Khalid got chunked during the final battle in BG2 but as he dies anyway I just left it and transfered via import. Just got Xan, Aerie, and Valygar, using the bonded path of the romance for Xan as I just finished the BG1 romance. I hear there is a nasty surprise and the readme says to use Valygar for TOB so I booted Minsc (T_T) and picked up Valygar, and once I'm out of the sphere I shall boot Jaheira in favor of Haer'Dalis because he's awesome and I want to see banters between him and Xan.

On a seperate playthrough I chose the new romance with Xan and am using an elven ranger who dual-wields long and short swords using the generic blonde elf portrait rather than a custom this time. Heh sorry about all ^_^;

In other news I noticed on spellhold studios yesterday that the SOA portion of the Haer'Dalis romance has gone into beta testing ^___^ (love ya Xan but when that is released I shall finally be a very happy girl XD, the only thing that could make me happier is a BG2 mod that reintroduced Skie, Garrick, and Eldoth ^_^; Love Garrick, like Skie, love Garrick's adorable crush on Skie, HATE Eldoth and his manipulative bastard ways and his treatment of Skie and would LOVE to see a continuation of this in BG2... XD but that might just be me._

Deorwyn In reply to thunderanima [2011-09-06 05:19:37 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I remember gibberlings. Though wolves were more lethal to lvl 1 characters. But if you had a ranger you could use that charm ability. I was always using it before the fight with that guy with zombies to boost up a little my party of me and Imoen with a wolf for close combat.

Haven't played with Trilogy mods yet. With Xan, well, yeah, the surprise is nasty. And Valygar is recommended for some more dialogues you have with him after, well, the surprise.

Oh, so they got to Hearry's romance? Neat, I'd check that. If I install BG again.

... Accidentally hit the arrow key and it changed the page making me lose my entire post -_- why do the bloody arrow keys force you to change the page on this site it really grates on my nerves especially since my over sensitive touch pad sometimes triggers it when I'm just trying to use it like a flipping mouse....

Question is the nasty surprise only for the bonded path? Currently been working more on my not bonded character pursing the new romance since my bonded path playthrough is currently experiencing technical difficulties in the planar sphere, AKA I'm getting my arse kicked XP

Trilogy is fun, though it would be more fun if the transfer worked as advertised... -_-;

As for the HD romance check out the teasers on the forum ^___^ I was worried no one would pick this back up since everyone who tries it has quit, but with the SoA part nearly complete and the Epilogues already written I'm feeling confident that this one will actually be finished.

Yup, the real nasty surprise is for bonded path only. The non-bonded has a not-really-nice surprise, too, but it's not as nasty.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thunderanima In reply to Deorwyn [2011-09-09 12:51:49 +0000 UTC]

Just beat the SoA part, XD mwahahahaha Irenicus stood no chance against Aerie's limited wish chain contingency firestorm, the solar I summoned, and cerberus XD (my unbonded path is an elven ranger named Laurel, bonded path playthough is an elven sorceress named Alanna). Also had a simulacrum of Xan and the air element it summoned. XD I don't usually get HLA's before I get to ToB but I may have overleveled a bit. XD Also bard's level up FAST, Laurel and Minsc are level 20 (Laurel is a bit ahead since Minsc temporarily got the boot to do the planar sphere so I could get the gloves of ogre power. First time I ever actually finished making the Crom Frayer.) But Haer'Dalis is freaking level 25 XD And I just got done with meeting the wraith and talking to Nyalee(sp?)

XD Is it wrong that I have the mod that let's you upgrade Haer'Dalis' swords in the underdark from +2 to +4 shortswords just so I can keep him using his signature weapons?

You aren't kidding with not-really-nice surprise... XD actually wanted to beat someone's head in with his own moonblade at times XD ^_^; really freaking sweet of Aerie, Imoen and Minsc to stand up for Laurel and guilt trip Xan about breaking up with her at such a difficult time. XD if I could draw worth a crap that would be the first BG mod fanart I would draw XD Sure they are back together now but he's lucky Laurel is such a kind and forgiving soul XP.

Almost made me wish I had kept Jaheira to see what she would have said about it... but then the reason I kicked her out was because she suddenly glitched and started saying one of dialogues over and over and over I think it was one of her early lovetalks for some reason (not sure though, its when she's being snappy about what to do now) I was debating at the time if I should boot her or Minsc for Haer'Dalis (odd Minsc didn't offer Aerie to be his witch this playthough, he usually always does that) and then Jaheira went glitchy so that made up my mind for me. Also when I booted her she talked about meeting me at the harper hall to go to that meeting and not to make a liar of her... this was odd because I had already beat that quest and everyone in the harper hall was already dead.... XD also just found out this playthrough that if you go back into the harper hall after doing Xzar's quest you can find Monteran's body for lots of exp.

I don't know if this glitch is a normal one or a mod caused one... Jaheira is known to be rather glitchy at times I've noticed.

Deorwyn In reply to thunderanima [2011-09-10 06:19:31 +0000 UTC]

Congrats I don't remember if I ever got that high a level by the end of SoA.

Nah, it's not wrong, I usually let them use their signature weapons even without upgrading :b

Heh, yes, I went through that too. He can really get on your nerves at times. XD He's just lucky the Bhaalspawns tend to be forgiving.

I dunno, I've never encountered this glitch with Jaheira. Though I rarely take her into the team. I've met similar glitch (repeating one conversation over and over) only once with Anomen when I was playing Kivan mod. But if she tends to be glitchy, as you say, maybe it's just her?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thunderanima In reply to Deorwyn [2011-09-10 21:45:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah Jaheira does tend to glitch, I think you actually have to cheat to finish her romance in SoA because an encounter won't spawn due to a coding error. Never had a glitch with Anomen, XD once I finish the Xan romance I'm going to play his through, I do like him surprisingly apparently (so many people seem to hate him and Aerie and I'm rather fond of both of them...) Hmm I have the Kivan mod but I haven't actually installed it yet... I'm wary of the voice acting... I really don't care for voice acting in mods as it always sounds wrong... I actually used the minor mod to give Xan back his BG1 voice set and remove the voice acting from the Xan romance for BG2 because I couldn't stand the new voice... -_-; but that's just me maybe...

-_- for some reason BG won't run on my mother's computer anymore (thankfully I also have it on my own, but my bonded path save was on hers...) I guess I'll have to uninstall and reinstall it later.

XD this is why I've been working on the unbonded path so much honestly. Oh those weren't my levels for Irenicus I don't remember those, those were my levels for meeting Nyalee. Though there were still up there. HD had his first HLA and placed spike traps everywhere XD Cheese or no cheese Irenicus deserved that. I had no idea bards got the magic traps for HLAs XD that was a pleasant surprise XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Deorwyn In reply to thunderanima [2011-09-13 07:14:30 +0000 UTC]

I rather like Anomen, too. He's usually my main choice when I need a cleric. He can be annoying, but strangely it doesn't bother me as much, and somehow it has its own charm in a way. I rarely take Aerie, though. She's nice and likeable, but I find other characters some more interesting and there's no room for her afterwards in my party.

Well, generally I'd agree with the mod voice acting, but I can tolerate it. However, it tends to stand out considering that I play the Polish language version of BG and the mods are usually English-voiced, so there's quite a mix-up there later, even if the lines are translated. :b

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thunderanima In reply to Deorwyn [2011-09-13 07:29:59 +0000 UTC]

XD well at least I've never played a mod with worse voice acting than Phacia in Lunar Silver Star Story Complete for the psx, the rest of the voice acting in that was decent to awesome, but Phacia's was just terrible XD

But the problem I have with mod voice acting is that for some reason it comes across as unnatural for some reason, probably just because all the normal voice acting in the game is professional and the mod voice acting is not? XD I mean seriously the only custom voices I have in BG are converted from Icewind Dale. XD mostly for Fighter 5, probably my favorite voice for a male fighter or rouge, mostly because the battle cry is 'Well, looks like I'm gonna have to go on a killing spree!' and for the forth wall shattering 'I heard you the first 20 times you clicked on me!'

XD on a side note finished watching Inuyasha: The Final Act today. ^_______^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Deorwyn In reply to thunderanima [2011-09-13 15:28:06 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'd agree it is the professionalism or its lack that is the issue.
I played Icewind Dale. The custom voices are really nice there. Most of lines they say after you click them too much is fourth wall shattering. I especially remember the female orc one that was threatening to strangle you with a mouse cable or something. XD

I heard about Inuyasha, but never actually watched it. I don't watch much anime, though I liked Wolf's Rain and Record of Lodoss War. Those were nice series.

thunderanima In reply to Deorwyn [2011-09-13 19:03:14 +0000 UTC]

XD You realize that now I HAVE to play a female orc just to use that voice XD

Though I did once have a soundset someone made from Black Adder XD it was hilarious, especially 'A chat with you and somehow death loses its sting' for the death quote. Ummm I have no idea if you've seen that but its a british comedy.

I heard of those, but I haven't seen them. I love Fullmetal Alchemist (especially the manga and the second anime that follows the manga), Inuyasha (XD obviously), Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok (though I prefer the manga in this case as it and the anime are very different VERY DIFFERENT XD), Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle (again perfer the manga as it actually is finished, anime got discontinued cause the anime people pissed off the writers when they wanted to change a main character's backstory), Ronin Warriors, Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing, Lost Universe (T_T have to watch it in japanese though because the dub is that bad T_T, usually I can watch the dub with no problems), Slayers (If I recommend any anime on this list it is this one! XD)

XD as you can tell I like a lot of anime XD

Yes I do

I have seen Black Adder. The part when he was on the I WW was my favourite. I generally like british comedies, especially those older.

Wolf's Rain I'd recommend to see. It's charming anime, imho one of the best I've seen. Although it is sad in a way, especially the ending. And I liked ROLW mainly because it has that Baldur's Gate feel.

thunderanima In reply to Deorwyn [2011-09-14 06:17:39 +0000 UTC]

Oh I love them, my favorites are Black Adder, Red Dwarf, Keeping up Appearances, Are you being Served, 'Allo 'Allo, Waiting for God, As Time Goes By, Up Pompeii, Mulberry (T_T probably my favorite but it makes you happy and sad at the same time, its very bittersweet, pity it was never finished), not sure it counts as a comedy but Doctor Who (I especially liked the third, fourth, and fifth doctors) Its not that I don't like the new series (though parts of it irk me) but that they all insist on reairing it and not airing the classic doctor who episodes. ...Thinking about it I think I watch more british comedies and anime than I do american shows XD Though I'm loving the heck out of the Thundercats Remake. It is amazing and way better than I expected it to be... now if only someone would pick up and finish Swat Kats and Pirates of Darkwater. XD and more Reboot would be amazing!
