I am totally fine with Tikal being a mother (or surrogate mother)...she definitely has the personality type for it. And she looks so cute hugging little Knuckles like that!

Like, it all started with a redraw of Tikal from the episode where they go in the past, and then my hand and my brain were just like ok, so hear us out... tiny Knuckles, and then bam, the idea exploded from there.

I ALWAYS FELT LIKE Tikal feels responsible over Knuckles and making sure he's okay, that he eats, that he takes care of himself much like a mother would and when he was okay enough to handle himself on his own, left him to do his own thing and since she doesnt really exsist in their physical world his memory of her faded away over time... sO HE BE LIKE

I know there is some debate on whether Tikal is actually alive or not, there is debate over her relation to Knuckles (There is still evidence that says they might actually be from the same family). However, considering she came from ancient times, typically turns into a ball of light when not using her true form (and never does this during the ancient flash backs), and has never reappeared since the Adventure games... I think it's pretty safe to say Tikal is a ghost, a life that has passed on and only appears when Chaos is out of control again, a guiding light should the current guardian face their darkest hour. All of this makes it highly unlikely that they would ever be a romantic couple.

Like, what if her body is being preserved by M.E in a shrine on the island and the reason her spirit keeps popping around (since she's the only spirit from Knuckles entire tribe that shows herself to him) is because she never truly left that plane of existence. Hnngghh...! Gurl, if I ever become a dedicated artist, I fear this might be my fate some day.
You're not too far off from what a lot of fans believe. Her soul was trapped in the Master Emerald at the beginning of Adventure. And despite the fact that she and Chaos flew into the sky, A.K.A. the heavens, at the end of the game; there are still fans who think she and Chaos are still in the Master Emerald right now.
But an immortal Tikal? That sounds horrible... Living forever, never aging or dying, outliving everyone you've ever known or liked... I wonder if it's painful.
I am going to guess that Tikal probably isn't an immortal with a detached soul. If that were true, why just her? Why not any other guardians before Knuckles came around?
I hope you don't mind me talking about stuff like this. I feel like such a big nerd right now.

I get so removed from what goes on within the fandom so I miss all the good shit !!
And right?! I'm thinking maybe she's like a favored one. Not a Guardian but not meaningless? In a sort of way. Like there must be more of a reason behind why the Master Emerald and/or Chaos chose to keep her as their communicator to the outside world besides the fact that she's kind and understanding.Like it's a good premise but there's gotta be more to it than that.
Iono, I like to think that the Master Emerald is made out of many entities, not just Chaos and that they exist on like some extraterrestrial plane that only certain members of the echidna's clans can communicate and speak with. In which Knuckles and Tikal are two of those echidnas, but while Knuckles was chosen as the Guardian, Tikal's role remains unclear because she was an unprecedented result of a tragedy. I was unaware she was chosen. I always thought Tikal sacrificed herself, using all of her life energy to keep Chaos trapped for as long as possible. The Master Emerald was never broken before Adventure, so that must be what set them free.
It's cool. Until Sega clarifies, this is all headcanon stuff anyways!

I have been writing short little fanfictions about Knuckles just doing his thing on Angel Island. He's an adult in those, but Tikal reveals that she is in fact Knuckle's aunt. This picture makes me want to add more stories to that. Maybe write about exactly what we see here, with Knuckles as a little boy still in the past, before Chaos went crazy and the Master Emerald shrine was attacked. I love this so much!

Ho ho, no! Thank you! I haven't been inspired to write Knuckles related stuff in a while. I think it's time I returned, once I'm done working out of town that is. Summer keeps me pretty busy. You've no idea how much I lover personal art like this. If only more people did this with Shade and some of the other lesser known characters. I really appreciate what you've posted and I want to write again soon, so thank you! : )
