I think he means the very first Bankais we saw in the series which were all enormous (Sajin, Renji's "incomplete" one, Mayuri). Then Kubo like "minimized" them starting with Ichigo

A far as I know "bankai" was never limited in terms of size, shape or amount. For example the bankai of Byakuya and Toshiro Hitsugaya are so different that you couldnt tell it has something in common. Im not sure if they alerady shown bankai of captains Ukitake and Kyoraku (I did not read the manga so I don´t know but in anime they always used Shikai)

I think she mean the fact that when rukia using her bankai, Rukia's body fall uder 140 of negative temperature., Then her body is at the limite to die when she using her bankai. ^^

Judging by the way Byakuya spoke of her bankai, I'm going to guess that her entire body frosts/freezes over. Would only serve to make these pictures even more amazing (A soft pale blue on her skin)

Honestly... i don't watach the manga, i watched only the anime also i colored it with white (ice theme) because i thought it fits better and about her skin i don't know what so say...

Rukia's zanpakuto works by forcing her own body temperature to reach drastically low temperatures (which must give her temporarily invincibility because her heart temporarily stops beating). She transfers that ability through her zanpakuto and that is how she can use her techniques. In bankai her body reaches the point of absolute zero, the point at which molecules completely stop moving. After using bankai her body becomes so cold that she turns into a literal frozen statue temporally losing the ability to move. As her body begins to thaw if she unfreezes her body too quickly her body will crack and break apart like ice killing her.

I"m not sure as far as a time limit on her bankai, we've only seen her use it once so far. And does she die in bankai?, yes and no. Her heart stops so she's in a state of temporary death. But her heart continues beating after she releases bankai and thaws her body. If she breaks her body while thawing out though she'll die permanently.

Her opponent was a Quincy named Äs Nödt, he was an elite soldier of Yhawch's Quincy army. He was strong, in fact he nearly killed Byakuya. In other words about as strong as a soul reaper captain. His special ability was to fire large black spikes at his opponents, after being hit with them the victim would be over come by uncontrollable amounts of fear. They would see visions of their greatest fears.

She introduced her bankai in chapters 569 and 570. I highly recommend reading the latest arc in the manga (starting at chapter 480). This is to be the last major arc of the series. And it is EPIC I have not enjoyed Bleach this much since way back in the rescue Rukia arc. All the major plot holes in the story are getting answered, HUGE amounts of back story is being answered. We find out the truth about Ichigo's mom and dad, where Ichigo's powers really came from, the king of soul society, soul reapers vs the quincy army, how zanpakutos are really made. Ichigo gets a new Zangetsu, Kenpachi gets shikai...
Until you read the latest chapters, than every thing you knew about Bleach was a lie.

When the anime was over, i thogout and the manga is over... you know... but now i see it's on going like fairy tail, they stoped the animation because not earn so much money from anime...
