Lon Chaney's ever-lasting performance as Erik, the Phantom of the Opera has had a lot of audiences screaming in theater seats in 1925 thanks to his techniques of doing his own makeup. Based on the novel by Gaston Leroux, Chaney's makeup was a perfect match from the original novel's description of the Phantom. This drawing is inspired by the style of my favorite artist Al Hirschfeld and I used his famous NINA technique of Erik's sleeve. I also included his name in the drawing as a sign of inspiration..
