After reading this page, I went back and checked out the beginning of chapter 13, where they were all planning the raid on the Longshadow base. And damn, a lot has changed. Back then, there was this sort of warmth. They sat close together. There was even the scene where Tom and Jonathan got together and Devin cracked a joke about Jonathan getting some. Sure, it was a serious mission, but they were still friends and could still share a laugh or two to lighten the mode. But now it's just...cold. They're sitting farther away from each other---except Tom and Jonathan. No one is smiling. Kia looks completely exhausted. Janice is all business. Tom and Jonathan both look worried/scared. It's amazing how much the dynamic has changed in a few chapters. The severity of the situation has set in and it's affecting everyone.

it would be cool if they smashed the thorn and shared it so they could fight the other cats on equal terms.

the thorn might lose its powers then. just as the wind cloak exploded when it was torn apart

it might be possible as the thorn is a more solid objects. so maybe shards can retain some power.
