Wow, it's beautiful! This could pass as finished, but I can't wait to see what the next 20% will add to it...
Like Charoi said, if it's digital it will always look that way... If it's not supposed to look digital then why not use a different technique?
But I understand what you mean, I like the traditional feeling better.

I know... digital is digital, sigh.
I wanted to try it one more time since I got CS5 (I have to say I don't like it more than cs4, so I switched back).
In the end I also switched back on the wacom tablet and reverting to 4 it went faster... the new wacoms, no matter how much you set them, really don't feel my hand for some reason.
I always work with flow and opacity.
On one side I wanted to see if I could still do it... you know, matte painting and stuff (since it gave me bread). On the other end while I was painting it I started feeling again all the reason why I don't like the sleek digital look: everything looks like plastic!
I haven't tried acrylics in a long time. Maybe I should try the next one in acrylic.

I don't think it is bad when something looks digital if it's done digitally (of course, in this case you don't want it to look like that, so I understand) and that alone doesn't mean it's bad. This one here looks very beautiful, and I especially love the mermaid. And the movement is very good too. I just can't help wondering why Cat fell off the boat D: maybe he think he saw something on the water and tries to look closer... I just hope Callista didin't pull him to water D: though she doesn't seem to want to drown him, luckily...
How much time this took?

See the whole idea was that he dives and goes something like: here I am.
So it is supposed to be an underwater date.
Cat is not finished yet.
So far it took me 18 hours.
