Description
Craig leaned against the rail and watched as some horses ran their morning workout. Some of them had interested him more than others today and he had looked them up. You never knew when such information could come in handy. Like the two year old colt that he won over once weren’t really one that would have been noticed before. He didn’t have any famous relatives up close. Now he was looking at other horses from the same owner. They too never made a fuss, ran their first races as two year olds without any major downs or excitement. There was the grey Black Creek Crossing Stables bred filly Xoxoyourstruly that like the cartoon bull Ferdinand rather smelled on flowers than did what she was bred to do. She was honest; there was no doubt about that but racing simply weren’t in her heart. Something she did do was to keep her stablemate Srslyitzatheme, who’s sire Thatthemeweknow sired the mighty but ill-fated Yakety Sax, company. The bay mare was a little bit shy but was expected to grow into her shoes and she had already a SpW status and three first places in a row so far from ten starts. Next of the races are Mocking Bird, daughter of the stallion Laughing Bird owned by Brazen Fields. Her mother had just one stakes win and had been described as slightly unfocused on track. So far the filly showed promise but Craig hadn’t seen enough of her running to create a image of her yet. She was fast in her finishes however and liked to wiggle her tongue as she passed the finish line weather she won or not.

The brit’s morning musings suddenly got interrupted by a wild squeal. At the gates a painted filly danced around on her hindlegs while the groom held on. On her back a familiar redhead held on as well. She bucked, tossed and pirouetted like the most skilled ballerina. Craig looked in his notes, it was an Australian filly named GrangerDanger and was newly imported and cleared from quarantine. She hadn’t done any starts yet so he couldn’t really tell what her running was like. Like a twister, or perhaps one of those balloon figures car salesmen have outside their stores the filly reared once more and together with a sharp and sudden twist she lost both her rider that fell off and landed on his butt as well at the same time her groom lost the grip on her lead. With a snort she then took off down the track. Craig laughed and didn’t let his glee be silenced as Ron passed him, red faced from both shame and anger.

“Way to go tiger…” Craig laughed “…time to go home and write about the bollocks owie in your little pink diary?”

He only got a glare in reply.

“Hey Carrot!” Craig shouted after him “I sure hope you can ride tonight after that oh so nasty fall…me and AK sure want somebody to play with…”
