Description New Year, new style!

So what I wanted to do was preserve the original pencil work to some degree, as I feel that some of the character is lost a bit when I do inks. Not hating on the medium, I'm just a penciler at heart.

This allowed a bit more flexibility and subtlety with colors and contrast (in this case mostly airbrush work in Krita) now that there aren't terribly huge fields of pure black that need to be balanced with whites.

As for the subject, The Shadow was the alter ego of playboy Lamont Cranston during the era of the pulp magazine hero. Less colorful that what we come to know as superheroes, stories were gritty, violent, and laden with sexual tension that folks really only caught on to later. Nonetheless, "the pulps" served as an important stepping stone in the history of costumed heroes, with The Shadow specifically influencing the creation of The Batman later on. The Shadow would be brought to radio plays where I first heard of him (thanks to grandma and her cassette recording of one of the old shows) and eventually straight up comics and a film in the 90s with Alec Baldwin in the title role.

"Who knows what evil lurks within the hearts of men?...."

"The Shadow knows."

Well done The Shadow looks excellent in this style.

I always bash my head when it comes to trying to illustrate this hero, you've done the piece in lots of dark tones yet I can see the details just fine.
