Rei. That is her name. I didn't know that until I started drawing her. When I was younger I thought Sailor Mars was the hottest... that is until Sailor Venus showed up.

I thought to draw something sexy. But what is sexy? Sex appeal comes in many forms. Some can be thought provoking, and some visually striking. Sex appeal comes from that of sex, so physically speaking breasts or buttocks of a woman can be sexy. Gesture wise, lip biting and caressing of one's body also suggest some seuxal tension. Main thing I noticed in my femal characters is that they usually have thier legs closed. It sort of presents the idea of "not putting out"; mysterious, but not entirely sexy. So I decided to have the posture of Sailor Mars to be more open.

I sketched out the figure quite roughly knowing that I was going to revise it digitally. I drew the figure sort of leaning back in 45 degrees and playfully looking over her right shoulder. Her hand and arms position came quite naturally and I was really proud of that. Thinking back, I think her hands are the only things that I didn't change.

So I had my line work done and it was time to put in some color. I had plenty of references online. I added the weapon, the bow and the arrow. In the anime the bow is made out of fire, but I decided to put something we are more used to seeeing. I used charcoal and knife tools to color, occasionally adding pen to make some detailing work.
