lovely debbie. I have a question. I cant seem to take a GOOD shot of a flower with backlight. What do I need to do so you can see the flower with using the flash?

Do you mean without using the flash? If I'm using flash I use my studio lights so the light is spread more even and so is the flash. I rarely use my in camera flash or even my off camera flash. I took some flower photos on Sunday and found if I pointed my soft box at the side of the flower so it's almost pointing towards the camera it gave a better light[link] I didn't use any flash as that light source was strong enough.
You could try this with a spot lamp with a 100watt bulb. On Stormy lantern [link] this was done in my conservatory. It was late in the afternoon and getting dull. I'd actually put a piece of white card over the glass in the door and the flower was on a table in front of it. I put a spotlight down low behind the flower. I didn't use a flash and you can see the background didn't come out white but freaky looking. Now don't ask me how all this happened but it did. I find most of my good stuff turns out to be a fluke and when I try really hard I get shit results
I can remember on this rose I'd used my studio lights.
The only advice I can give is to alter the settings on your camera. I try to keep my aperature low and also my ISO as I don't like noise in my photos. It's trial and error really Edie but best of luck

I will keep trying things and I dont have any kind of fancy lights so I will need to play with the settings. I really thank you for the links to explain things to me. My hubby does have some kind of light for when he works in the garage. Ill try it instead of pulling out the tripod. I do use low ISO cause I really hate noise with a passion

If you want to play with light you should use your tripod. An ordinary household table lamp will do. You could even try putting coloured bulbs into it

We're all on here to learn. You don't actually get many proffesionals on here after all and come to think of it the professionals aren't always 'all that'

I'm grateful to my husband for getting me into photography as I've finally found something I'm really good at and enjoy. We do get to spend a bit less time on DA as we go on I think

and Im trying to get my hubby into it.... I have loved taking pictures since high school but with film I didnt take as many but I always had a camera by my side. Less and less but I hope I never quit DA but who knows

I hope WE don't quit as well.
I've always taken photos since I was young and my first husband bought me a camera to take photos when our first child was born. I have hundreds and hundreds of photos of the kids. It slowed down as they got older and we didn't have holidays together etc.
Then I got a digital and Paul finaly got me on here. That's when I stopped taking snapshots and started taking it seriously. It's a shame in a way as I no longer take those 'majic' moments

OMG she's 65 did you say she's 65 ? Mmmm I thought you said she's 65 but I could have been mistaken with you saying she's 65 but then again you could be correct in saying she's 65 I'll ask Nigel if Lynne is 65 but I doubt whether he will say she's 65 even if Lynne is 65 you know Nigel he don't give any secrets away especially on someone being 65 like you say Lynne is ... 65 I mean WOW 65 never ... 64,11 months and 18 days may be but not 65.
