Description
Eltz is a German medieval hilltop castle standing on a rock above the Elzbach river between the cities of Koblenz and Trier in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The castle was built at the beginning of the 12th century on the trade route between the Moselle River and the fertile Maifeld region. Eltz is one of the few castles on the left bank of the Rhine that has never been sacked. For more than 800 years, the castle has been owned by the lords and counts of Elz.
