Description Recommissioning after a five-year rebuild, HMS Eagle was immediately pressed into service as the flagship of Operation Socialise: the campaign to retake the Falkland Islands in April-July 1964. The alterations made to her included the installation of a fully-angled 8-degree deck, Sea Cat missiles, new radar and a complete overhaul of her electrical systems and air conditioning. Last-minute additions included new water-cooled blast deflectors to accommodate fighters fitted with reheated engines and bridle catchers on her catapults. After this refit, she remained in service until the early-1980s.
