Description Starter Box is the first Starter Deck in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game (OCG). It has only been released in Japanese.

It was initially released in theaters on March 6, 1999, coinciding with the Japanese premiere of the Toei film Yu-Gi-Oh!. The official, widespread release date was twelve days later, on March 18, 1999. In addition to these cards, both releases of the Starter Box included a Deck box with belt clip, a Life Points Duel Calculator, 50 Duelist Score Sheets. six Star Chips and a playmat.

The cards included differed between the theatrical and retail releases contained: The theatrical release exclusively included "Aqua Madoor", "Trial of Nightmare", "The 13th Grave", "Dark King of the Abyss", and "Turtle Tiger"; the retail release instead contained "Genin", "Kageningen", "Rock Ogre Grotto #2", "King Fog", and "Spiked Snail".

Customers who pre-ordered the Starter Box also received a Super Rare "Celtic Guardian" promotional card.

Sometime after the introduction of the Official Guide Starter Book, the Starter Box was reprinted as Starter Box Version 2. The only major difference was the introduction of the "Official Rulebook, 2nd Edition" which explains Effect Monsters, Ritual Monsters, and the newly-introduced Expert Rules.

Like other cards printed early on in the game, the cards in Starter Box have no printed set numbers, and lack the holographic Eye of Anubis in the lower right-hand corner of each card.
