Thank you its a limited palette... Just Ultramarine blue, burnt sienna, black and white. The grey look is achieved by first painting the whole thing in burnt Sienna and then painting the blue over it. The burnt Sienna and blue are complimentary colors and will produce the grey blue look. I do this as a temperature painting demo for my class.

The composition is beautiful, but what I most like about this is the subtle warm lighting. That really makes this painting, for me

The subtle warm lighting is because the whole under-painting in painted in burnt Sienna which gives it the warm glow. You can see it even more in person.

Beautiful imagery and it's amazing what a difference using brown and blue makes to blacks... this would probably have looked much less alive with just a mars black or some other color. I love the idea, and nice to hear it's a series too.

I love painting in a very limited palette.. its forces you to understand color in a very complex manner.

Thank you so much Liliy... this is actually a temperature painting. The only colors used were ultramarine blue, burnt Sienna, white and black. All the greys were mixed from just the Ult blue and burnt Sienna and then shifted to look warmer or cooler.
