Description I did a travel to Scotland this year. This is one of the most awesome valleys in Scottish Highlands. It's called Glencoe, a gaelic term that means "Valley of tears". This picture shows the Three Sisters: Beinn Fhada, Gear Aonach and Aonach Dubh.

The valley have a very sad history of murder and betrayal. That's why they called it valley of tears.

I have more pictures of Scotland in scraps [link] if you want to see them

Oh, that looks lovely. When I was little, I always wanted to go to Scotland. It seemed so pretty and exciting, with a lot of history. I still want to and I'd love it if I could go someday.

I just heard about the valley from a book called Fire Bringer by David Clement-Davies.

I'm quarter Scottish, and my family still live there. I'm in England with my mum and other family. Scotland will always be my mother land.. I am proud to have Scottish blood. I am about 3-4hours away also. Shorter than that if you go by train/plane.

Same here! I have fairly recent Scottish ancestry on my grandmother's side, and currently live in NW England. I visit Scotland almost every year on camping holidays (sadly I have no family still living there as far as I know). It's the only place I really feel alive.

I would like to point out that the reason it's called glen coe is not due to the incident of murder and betrayal it's due to the river coe that flows through it and it's gaelic term is infact Gleann Comhan and does not translate to "glen of wheeping" or as you put it valley of tears but it is a very nice photo and I think you taken the picture wonderfully.

Thank you so much for this picture. I also travelled there this year and now I understand why I can't be no more happy here. I want to go there again.
I took a Bed & Breakfast in Glencoe and I learned : Scots don't have valleys ... they have glens !

...though I gotta point out that Glen Coe is actually supposed to mean "Valley of the Dogs". However it has also been known as the "Glen of Weeping", from before the 1682 incident, taken from the River Coe which runs through the valley.

Interstingly also, Glen Coe is the remains of an ancient supervolcano that erupted with a force of VEI-8. It is considered to be one of the best examples of such a thing.

Nicely done, and I really like the commentary. I agree, it is awesome, although it has been a few years since last visited. One can feel the sadness there, even as lovely as it is. Very sad history.

I myself have been to Scotland for two days three weeks ago, and i was there in Glencoe! And that story about the defiance between the two tribes - MacDonalds and Campbells, - it's shocking! I love Scotland!

Indeed, the story of Glencoe is fascinating, as is most of the stories in Scotland. I'm sure you enjoyed your visit a lot.
Thanks for the link to your photo, is great to see the mountains again. I hope I could go there again soon .
