Where to start... where to start...
I'll start with the color!! With a lot of stone in flintknapping
most or many require heat treating. It's a process where
the stone is basically cooked so to speak & in that time
the heat softens the material enough to make it usable.
Otherwise it's too hard & you can't use it. On top of that
it really brings forth any natural color, saturates it if you will.

As you chip the more & more the color & nature of the
stone is revealed. Here on the outer edge & almost the
whole upper left tip is a sort of light opal shade/almost
clear. Bits & shades of light oranges almost cloud like
whites all seamlessly & easily flowing from one to the next.

Finally & equally featuring the beautiful intricate & elaborate,
elegant wire designs of Michael Thornton. As I look at it
I can only imagine the amount of time it took to do each
of the loops, to line them all across in all four directions.
The tiniest of fine detail it must have took. All I have to
say - lucky is the person this goes to
