Description
I recently completed a commission for a group in Dalhousie university that created a report for programs available to indigenous students in Canada. (Canadian medical schools: Summary of admissions and support programs for Indigenous students)
I had to create a cover that would show an aboriginal flavour (not hard because my unique does this already) and represent the contents in a metamorphic and general way.
I started by reading their report. (Quite interesting, actually) I will be posting a link to the finished version on this page later.
And it really made me realize that a different approach to medicine in general is needed in Canada in order to accommodate other cultures and belief systems! Empathy and understanding seems to be the key factor in the future success of our medical professionals in dealing with Canadians that perhaps have a good basis for being wary of traditional medical institutions.
But back to my process for creating this cover! I brainstormed with Nicole Doria, their team representative about their ideas and requirements for what my art would accomplish, and that was really inspiring for me. I must stay, I feel that I can use this experience to grow in my art personally. I'd like to explore the storytelling aspect of my art more fully in future artworks.
After kicking around some sketches, I took my direction with sketch their team approved and created the attached acrylic painting.
After that, it was a matter of digitizing it and playing around with text to go with the finished product!
Also, I'd like to thank anyone who faves this artwork
