Description Taking a break from the Detroit Zoo to showcase my favorite new photo I took of a black-footed cat at the John Ball Zoo. Thankfully the exhibit this cat has at that zoo is fully lit up and as such no need to use flash in a darkened room. Not much else to say other than cuteness overload.

Taken at John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 15th, 2013.

Black-footed Cat
Felis nigripes

Habitat: Dry, sandy grasslands with shrubs but few trees. They live in burrows made by other animals, rock crevices and hollow termite mounds.
Food: Small rodents and birds are their preferred prey but they will eat anything they can catch, including animals larger than themselves.
Behavior: One of the smallest wild cats, these nocturnal predators are highly adapted to desert life. They will drink water when it is available, but get more of the water they need from their food.
Status Vulnerable: Naturally rare, they are protected in most of their range. Poisons used to control locusts and jackals are a serious threat.
Range: Southern Africa.

Just posted another Mighty Mike picture titled The Dragon's Eye, it's a close up of the big gator's eye taken merely a foot away from him.

Good lighting and minimum obstruction helps out a lot in getting a good focus on an animal.
