Definitely NVA. Inside it reads

It's definitely lower quality. The cap itself is made from wool, and not the officer fabric, and the badge seems less vivid. It could of course be age that messed up the badge, but the enameling looks like it was done worse.

No, the one in the photo is officer grade. It has the silver braid instead of the black strip, and it's made of a different fabric (only used by Enlisted men in Berlin). And I think 1856 is a factory number and not a date. I have seen the number in other hats .

Yeah, so he had an officers hat. The one I have isn't officers, and thus is slightly worse in quality.
