nah, i'm 45 years old - i don't need to protect my school (or myself)
i went to a public alternative school called Opportunity II in san francisco. i used to joke that it was the only state-sponsored communist high school in the US.
it was a pretty crazy place - for a while it was known as the People's Temple school because so many of the students were actually members of Jim Jones' People Temple. i was there right after they left - and died in guyana. there were a lot of sex, drugs, violence and rock 'n' roll - and i'm just talking about the teachers and crack addicted principal!
i recently got in touch with one of my old teachers from the school, and it turns out he and another teacher are writing a book about how insane the school was.
they were pretty happy i'd contacted them, so they could interview me. i also got them in contact with a bunch of other former students my sister and i still know. it'll be interesting to see how the book comes out.
