Why? The magician is *duh* magical: he has arcane knowledge which borders on alchemy. Who better to signify him than the man who knows too much for his own good? Besides, he looks right at home advertising from behind his table!

ah...the magician doesn't sell anything, actually. He's supposed to be doing alchemy, but it almost looks like he's hawking his wares, so there we are!
