it's not terrible difficult to do actually. I took the photograph while lying on my bed with my compact camera and a hard light on my left. I then drew the tattoo on me in photoshop as it is in it's final form. The between frames were made by gaussian-blurring the tattoo's layer to different values. The blurriest layer became the first frame and so on. Try it!
