For me personally I've always had an odd fascination with wolves since I was young, in a similar to your fascination of foxes. I always questioned why the wolf and the fox always seemed to be the 'bad guys' everywhere I went, somethig that only furthered my curiosity of the animal. I can understand how you felt, suddenly becoming sucked into a trope when you were attempting to do exactly the opposite, but if there is one thing I've learned its that it is not 'what' the character is that makes them special, but 'who'. Also, it is still possible to follow a 'fad' (out of love of course, not for the views) and still be origional by doing what I like to call 'anti-sterotypes', which is taking a common trope and turning it upsides-down. For example, wolves are often times the malicious villians in many stories, so I like to include them as protagonists and I also use them to symbolize empathy and tragic pasts. Regardless, you should never have a problem being origional, after all how many enigmatic magician fox duos do you see out there?

Yeah, they are really cute as geckos. Heh, I dig those hats. While I was in Florida I was seeing little lizards all over the place as well; Brown Anoles I think (Anolis sagrei). I like this picture, and I agree with that 'rant' up there as well. Personally I do like wolves because I see a wise and powerful animal, almost like an owl or something (at least in the spiritual sense; I know wolves are intelligent, but they're really not THAT smart. And on their own, not really all that strong either, compared to a tiger or other big cat). You like foxes, you always have, and that's you. Hell, I like foxes too (Found your art by searching up culpeo foxes and expecting to find photos; Nope! ). So anyways, great picture, great rant. Draw on.

I completely understand!!! Wolves have fascinated me ever since I tried out a game about them in elementary school - and since I liked to draw even BEFORE that, it was only natural for me to draw wolves. Only THEN did I go onto Deviantart for inspiration and noticed the wolf trend. I loved wolves and I still do no matter what!!!

You're point is very thoughtful and I agree with it completely. I hate when people follow a trend only for the sake of following it, not because they truly love the art they're making. I'll be honest, I love foxes. Not because I have seen a ton of them, but because they are gorgeous animals. Now don't get me wrong- I love wolves and cats and other animals too, but I simply enjoy seeing other people draw an animal I admire. But you yourself have to be careful of accusing people too, because some people will also draw foxes because they love the animal and you have to be ok with that. The people to really watch out for are the people who don't care, they just want favs.

I would catch Geckos at this certain house to keep for a couple days before letting them go. Though, when I moved it shifted out to walking sticks, then becoming even more involved with coaxing strays so they wouldn't be tipping garbage cans >.<

Trolling is a way to get over jealousy about real talent. anyway following trends is natural because humans natraly wich stick in the group as it was the best way to dsurvive
and i am not saying you are wher will be or any variation of the sort following the trend
Besides if foxes hadent become trend somthing elese would have and lots of draings where probaly done because of the trend wich is great more art to enjoy
ps
Nice drawing

As weird as this sounds, I love hyenas, and jackals! they're my favorite and I hope they never become so popular that people start a trend. I love your geckos, they have such a cartoonic vibrance, and their expressions are very clear! I wish you'd make a comc or something, you'd be very good at that!

Well it's not like Sin is one of those mass produced Red foxes or nine-tailed foxes. He is unique both as a character and as a species. It's not like you'll see that many grumpy Culpeos out there.

Haha, Reminds me of when I used to catch geckos for fun-- their tails ALWAYS fell off. Also reminded me of when I tried to catch a gecko and.. well... as soon as I grabbed it, I realized it was dead and crusty--toasted in the sun. Ugh.

Cute picture.^^
Anyways, what annoys me the most is when people judge the animal because of its trend. In a way, there is originality within the reason why you like the animal and how you portray it. I will always like wolves, but I kind of miss the old days when they were one of the least popular animals out there (not that I like the 'big bad wolf' or 'devil's helper' reputation either). Now that I think about it though, I can't remember a time when foxes were the minority. Then again, I grew up with someone who liked foxes and played a game about a fox (which also had an antihero that was a wolf who was my favorite character). But I guess in comparison to wolves now days, foxes still kind of are the minority. I always thought coyotes were the minority though.
Wow, I kinda went off topic there....

I know what you mean.
I used to like foxes because they were the underdog, and they were sneaky, devious, and cunning.
Now, that liking foskers is trendy, I almost want to not like them. It's like enjoying an indie band.
You were the die hard fan, until they became popular. Owl City is a perfect example. My sister and I liked him a full year and a half before he bcame popular, but now we don't enjoy him as much because he's on the radio and he's mad popular.
Gamers too.
Just go here: [link]
Also, very poetic about the soul animal.

The whole "not liking something because it's a trend" thing is a teenager kinda reaction. You grow out of childhood and look for an identity and latch on to something you like, then get scared you'll be "just one of the crowd" if everyone else likes it too. So if you count yourself as a noncomformist, you naturally reject it to maintain your "unique" and "cool" attitude. Ultimately though you're still letting the crowd define who you are and what you like. It's when you get older and become more secure in your identity that you realize what other people like doesn't matter; what you like is what you like. That could be childrens' cartoons, funny hats, or fluffy animals.
