Description Concept art while developing a shark character. I liked him way too much for throwing him away, so i rather keep him.

This is a male Blacktip Reef Shark, called Siarc. Let's see where and when he will be used for. 8D

More sharks will follow asap.

The easiest way to show emotions are.....eyebrows. That's what i'd think, at least (eyebrows can show perfectly whether the subject is angry, surprised, sad, etc. Just think about it: Animals don't have eyebrows but almost any animated film you can think of - Disney and Dreamworks in particular - animate their animal characters with eyebrows. Simba, Spirit, even Dori from Finding Nemo - they all had them to some degree.). This in combination with the eyes themselves and body language.

They pretty much own the Discovery channel for a week every year, though it seems like every second week.

Ah yeah, the shark week. Still, people care more for wolves and tigers, it seems.

Well, in my opinion animals that have social structures or intelligence of some kind are inherently more interesting. Sharks are just interesting from an evolutionary standpoint. They are kind of beautiful in how they're gracefully formed for hunting, but doesn't do me anything really.

Sharks acutally do show some kind of intelligence (not comparable to that of a dolphin, that is). Also, besides the intelligence-factor my believe why people care more for the fluffly critters is because those are mammals like us. Sharks, on the other hand, are just fish. They don't have fur, can't show any emotions, they don't scream, aren't as intelligent and, lastly, are dangerous to us (which are things they have in common with reptiles - which are on a similar "popularity ranking" as sharks). Tigers are dangerous as well but it is still easier for people to identify with them. Birds? Aren't mammals but at least they show some pretty intelligence AND are fluffy. Seems legit.

I think most vertebrates have some form of intelligence, and a few invertebrates as well (octopi apparently are one). Just yeah, still much harder to identify with them. Mammals are like us to varying degrees. Birds are often pretty smart (corvids are arguably smarter than any other animal but ourselves, besides, fuck dolphins), but are a little more alien to most people I guess, particularly in that their intelligence isn't quite like that of mammals.
Way oversimplified, but basically in the end, sharks kill shit really good. Shouldn't be loathed, but not really all that much to love either for most. Lizards on the other hand I think do deserve more attention, though I tend to find them pretty comical most of the time.

Probably because of all the "Jaws" movies promoting a negative stereotype.
