Chara is the most misunderstood character in the game. People think they're evil, but, do they ever give a reason why? Do they think of them that way because they scare you, because they tell you the truth?
Do you think Chara lies? They don't. They do not lie. They hated humans, they didn't hate monsters. Why would they? Because they took them in? Because they adopted them, took care of them, loved them? They wanted to free their family. They sacrificed themself.
They woke up, confused. You chose their path. Are they a pacifist or a murderer. They're never the latter. You press the buttons on your keyboard or joystick. It affects them. They never gain any LV or EXP, because it's ours. We were the ones playing, killing, gaining LOVE (I, myself, did not kill). They tell you that all LV, EXP etc. is yours. They do not lie.
If going through the genocide path once more, they literally tell you NOT to kill again. A psychopathic-demon-murderer would never say that.
Why they seem so crazy and evil at the end is because you killed their friends and family. You persuade them to think killing is the right thing to do. They seek your guidance.
They are the narrator. I don't need to explain why. If you don't know why, congratulations, you played yourself. They guide you through the Underground with the knowledge they gained whilst alive. They seem rather kind and funny as the narrator, don't you think? Some of the funniest moments in the game are the narrator's speech. They help you. Why would they help you if they're evil? They're not evil. Question answered.
They're weren't really the greatest person. I'm not the greatest person, and neither are you. That sentence does not mean they are automatically evil/bad/crazy etc. What Asriel says before that is important. Chara wanted to commit suicide, they hated. Frisk (on the TP route) did not hate, they were very nice and kind. That's the type of friend I wish I had too.
Kids might not know the difference between cups of butter and buttercups. They didn't mean to hurt their adoptive father. They laughed it off, they tried to turn it to the bright side. Asriel even agrees he should've done the same. Chara loved their family. We can see that from the drawings and the sweater they made. Mr. dad guy sounds like something a rather young and innocent child might say.
I don't like people who hate Chara. I don't hate them, just STRONGLY dislike them.
