Description This is my first ever print at VCA (Victorian College of the Arts) - a soft-ground etching on a copper plate.

Soft-ground etching is bascially rolling a "soft ground" wax onto a heated copper plate, leaving to cool, then putting a piece of thin paper over the top, and drawing on the paper - the harder you press, the more the wax transfers to the paper - and then it shows up after the acid bath.

Dyrads are female spirits of forests, as nymphs are female spirits of the water - but Dyrads are a great deal much more shyer, not so sexual and less malicious than their cousins, the nymphs.

I love the print its very well detailed for a print and I love the roughness of the whole print to balance out the softness of the Dryad.
