Description
This is the final Spartan Portrait for Fireteam Luna, featuring the guest characters who gave me the whole idea for this in the first place: Twokinds characters Raine Silverlock and Red! I was rather nervous doing this one, as while my skills at drawing Raine have improved, I still worry I might muck up pictures I draw of her and Red, but it turned out okay. I did kind of rush it towards the end, but it's still a decent standard.
Raine Silverlock, in my Halo fanon setting, is the Fireteam's Sniper and Close-quarters combat expert-visualised with her holding her Reach Era SRS99 Sniper Rifle, and the combat knife on the left side of her Chestplate. As for her out of armour picture, here she is looking at her new A.I.-RED-who in the Twokinds Comic is a red-headed guy, but thanks to the author having a bit of loose interpretation in my Sketch Request, here RED is a more...feminine...AI, wearing ONI Science uniform. I tried to capture some uncertainty, some shyness in their expressions...to reflect the withdrawn personality that Raine has both in the original comic, and in my headcanon for this project.
Raine hails from the Orbital Drop Shop Troopers (ODSTs) as a Helljumper of Fireteam Lupercal, where she was the squad's Close quarters expert, and second-best sniper. She formed close ties with squad sniper Alexander Volkoff...which ended in tragedy, as during the battle of Reach, a Brute Captain was able to flank Volkoff's sniping position, and impaled him with a Bruteshot. While she killed the Brute, she was unable to save her friend, who gave her his sniper Rifle and dog tags before he passed away. His death haunts her to this day...
Raine was selected as a candidate for the Spartan IV program for some astounding skill with the sniper rifle and close-combat during the war, including an engagement where she was successfully able to kill a Hunter bond Brother (Although she was almost killed in the battle, and required a long recovery period before she was able to walk again). During her augmentation process, there were several unknown anomalies that contributed to her near-death as she was given the implants. The cause of this is as of yet unknown... Upon entering service, She was provided with the Smart A.I. RED as a combat Aide, following a Psychological evaluation by the recently-deceased scientist Rebecca Epsilon Dalton, after which the AI is named.
Raine's Armour consists of Air Assault class Mjolnir, owing to the explaination that it was developed as an improvement on the standard ODST armour set. I have a feeling that some point later she will change over to Helljumper, but only when can be justified in-story, and when I think it suits. Air Assault is also one of my personal favourite Halo armours, especially since the helmet is prominently featured in Red vs Blue's thirteenth season as the helmet for the New Republic of Chorus armors. Her armour colour follows the fireteam colour scheme of Silver primary, and Cobalt secondary, with a howling wolf as the emblem.
All in all, I am happy that I was finally able to finish the squad off...I look forward now to drawing a group portrait of the fireteam, Helmets off, in armour...it'll be a pain to colour, but by GOD it'll be worth it. I'd like to thank Thomas Fischbach, author of Twokinds, for inspiring me all that time ago...Because seriously, this wouldn't even be an idea otherwise. I'm happy with how Raine and Red've turned out too...I wonder what's next for them in the Haloverse...
