Great colours and the black really makes them punch out. I am looking forward to the final piece and from a personal point ... I do appreciate this kind of work as well.

"My fanart almost always gets more attention than the rest of my stuff"
That's true with everyone, I guess. -Shrugs- Regardless, this is really beautiful. You've certianly mastered depth with fur and those eyes really hit you.

how does it feel to draw on this type of paper? too me this looks more realistic cause all of your colours standout even the whites!!
i get what you mean about the fan art part i guess people are only concerned about the fandom and less about the are itself!!

I love this so muuuuch~~ I do, I do! I'm not at all fond of primates either, haha, but this is just... ahh. I can't get over the fur. The face, the fur, every little detail! It's so great! But, a question about that-- did you make up stuff, and sorta just create details so it'll look like the picture, or did you make sure every little bit was exactly as shown? It's a dumb question, but I really wanted to ask. XD I should probably look at the actual photo. Also, I remember you saying sometimes you make an outline in a light color (with white paper) so you have guidelines. Did you not do that this time around?
Man, I'm really impressed by this, especially since it's on black paper. I've tried using it before, and it went terribly - probably because the black paper was crappy and I was using the wrong pencils, haha. I should invest in some watercolor pencils.
You say you didn't blend much, but whatever you did blend, and whatever's solid, looks fantastic. I feel like black paper would be really difficult to blend with, mainly since you can't use black (you didn't, right?) or it'll look strange... I'm really curious as to what the black paper you used is really like, since your scanner doesn't wanna share the secret.
Anyway, good job! I probably say it too much (definitely too much in my head) but I adore your work, forever and always.

Good question. I had to skip the guidelines this time, but it doesn't matter much for any part except the face. The shape of the body is pretty vague, and it'll still look fine if I get anything a little off. I copied the face and the edges of the fur exactly. The parts where the colours and tones change, I pay close attention to the reference. But the rest, where I'm just filling it in, I pretty much scribble all over the place. (And where I screw up, I erase gently to make the lines fainter, or scribble over it with a dark pencil.)
Another thing that's making it difficult is that I normally hold the drawing and reference up to the light to see if everything's in the right place. And obviously I can't do that here. The face is probably a little off, but as long as it looks alright, I don't mind.
I last used black paper 6 years ago, and it was really terrible. I think I was using the same pencils, I just... wasn't very good, and the paper was sugar paper, which is really cheap and really crap. It's what they hand out in pre-school for fingerpainting. -_-; This time I started with prismas, and they were too soft, so the paper shows through even if I press down. I had to go over a lot of the face with damp derwents. Oh well.
Unfortunately, black paper rarely seems to be black. It's more like dark grey. So you're right, you can't use black pencil, or else the paper won't be the darkest part, and it'll all look really weird.
I don't think it's possible to say it (or hear it) too much. I feel like my heroes don't realise how amazing they are, so I fangirl all over the place... and they still don't get it. They just think I'm a crazy person instead.
Anyway. Thank you.

Haha oh, I see I see! That all sounds reasonable. Still, it seems like super hard work. And man, I'm impressed that you didn't do any guidelines. Vague body shape or not, that's a pretty bold and talented move.
Yikes! ): But, you know, it's probably not bad like you said. Even if it was completely and totally off, it would still look pretty legit. 8D
Wow! nAn Yes, I agree, the cheap stuff is merely that. I think I may have just found some random black paper in a cupboard and tried to draw on that, ending up with the same results you had 6 years previously haha. I'm blown away, though, how you can excel in something you haven't even.. tried, and wow.
Well! :D I certainly hope you don't think of me as a crazy person. I ADORE YOU&YOUR ART. And you're very welcome~~!
