Really great variation and full of life. I'm in awe. Are any of them in the Ratchet and Clank games cause I don't remember seeing any of these cause it's been a while since I played one of the series?

Some of them look like birds that would be used in cutscene parts of Ratchet and Clank.

i was gonna say, the last one's not even a bird! XD it's like an alligator (or crocodile, i always get them mixed up sigh) mixed with a scorpion (tail) and a longhorn (horns...predictably from the name XD)

Haha, I loved it! Avians are cool to draw, with infinite combinations of collors and glamorous forms. The lizard is a bird-eater or its just my imagination? haha

I love these and have been admiring them for a long time now (happy to see them up on DA finally!) ^^ --A question regarding your art style, the line art is obviously very keen but does the process for these differ from say your Mr. Incredible art piece? I notice you have some nice works that are more line-comic ish and then these types which seem to blur the line a little more.

Cheers, awesome work like usual

CreatureBox In reply to IllysianB [2011-07-23 21:21:55 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, the process is somewhat similar. Both deal with the fundamentals of light, shadow, and form. For the more resolved paintings, the process usually takes longer and tends to focus on more detailed shadow work to remove the need for linework.

IllysianB In reply to CreatureBox [2011-07-23 21:41:28 +0000 UTC]

Obviously the result is beyond awesome so it's definitely worth the time! Last quick question is do you prefer to start in gray-scale for form or do you dive into colors pretty quickly?

(Thanks for answering these questions btw! The process at the last place I worked typically used gray-scale for their last project--so just curious on your opinions!)

CreatureBox In reply to IllysianB [2011-07-24 00:59:33 +0000 UTC]

Straight color or grayscale underpainting depends on the piece. If the image has several complicated value shifts I tend to start with gray. But if I have a clear sense of where the color should go, I'll tend to start with color. The trick is having both methods in your toolbox and running with the tool that feels right for the job. Hope that helps!

Oh that helps a bunch thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Definitely one of those things to tack onto the art list every day for improvement!

Cheers, thanks again!

I always wanted to interact with the Ratchet universe. To bad Insomniac keeps doing the same thing. not much has changed from the first Ratchet.

The worlds, tech, and creatures are the best parts. You should be able to do more than just blowing things up. I spent tons of hours trying to unlock all of the concept art. and when I did, I was stunned. For example, in FTOD I had unlocked art showing that one of the pirates base er whatever was actually in the shape of a giant octopus. I would have never have known that unless I looked at the art. Maybe they could actually have the ship move like a Octopus or something, I dunno. Whats the point of coming up with these great ideas if they are only for show, and shown badly at that.

and Fantastic art as always.
