Shimmerwings are nocturnal dragon-like creatures that eat fruits, berries and insects but the most delicious meal for them is a dreadblossom. Their heads evolved to mimic different kinds of insects such as moths, butterflies, etc which are the main prey of dreadblossoms. Hiding its bright parts so it won't distract its prey, the shimmerwing moves its head to imitate a real insect and fool the dreadblossom to make it leap foward from flowers. They usually hunt in the morning or in the evening depending on when the original insect is active, and during the night they rely on plant food and their shining bellies that attract various small insects. The bright coloring of their head feathers, inner wings and belly is also used to attract a mate. Thanks to their small size (not larger than a cat), calm personality and natural control over the dreadblossom population, who not only scare the natives of the Stig but also pose a threat due to some poisonous subspecies, shimmerwings are usually used as guardian pets.
