Kayako Saeki is an #onryo, a special brand of Japanese ghost ( #yuurei) that is so exceedingly vengeful from beyond the grave that they are able to do harm, kill, and even cause natural disasters. They're not necessarily women, but the most common ones *I've* heard of have been. Kayako's appearance is heavily based upon the kabuki appearance of onryo (itself very similar in theme to her movie appearance: long black hair, white clothing, super pale, and dark-ringed eyes). Another famous onryo is the Ring's Samara/Sadako (her story is heavily inspired by an even older Japanese ghost story, Banchō Sarayashiki.Otakon 2017
