Description A jubilant night, full of sauced up party goers and haphazard mingling, a warm air hung against the summer breeze and ocean spray. There was a tension unlike any other, despite that it was supposed to be an evening to unwind and let loose after years and years of discipline, regulations and etiquette. Tonight was the apex between a youth of being raised on perfection and a life of servitude. Everyone said he was going places, anything short of that would bring shame to his entire existence. The pressure, the fire; twisting and churning in his belly alone with a lone cocktail.

A different breeze blew through the blurred faces. A cooler air flowed around her as she approached his prim and proper uniform. She smiled at him, his eyes couldn’t leave her. All of that worry was melting away. Their feathers brushing, mingling, meeting for the first time. The moment was right, still, and perfect… almost too perfect. She wanted more. She wanted beyond perfect. She pulled him by the wing, and before he could sort through the dizziness of the crowd, they were framed by the dance floor.

They started slowly, feeling each other’s mood through motion, trying to ease away the insecurities. Their dance grew stronger, their bodies came closer. They became of one mind, no longer leading and following, but feeling and flowing. An entranced flow of azure and ivory feathers accompanied by his trimmed traditional garb, and her formal nylon and silk. The other faces sank into the back, the rustling feathers became silent, all eyes were on them. Admiration, infatuation, jealousy, courage, pride, all brewing in the observant eyes.

The moon smiled on this perfect moment. He never knew anything like this was possible. It was like she came out of nowhere… just, out of the blue.

A perfect moment.  I envy them.  So happy and in love.  Why can it never work for those of us who travel forever, searching for peace, blocking us from those perfect ties, those too strong for mere friendship, but not so strong as to discourage anything but.  I curse my luck, forcing me to forever wander the stars.
